Highlights
  • Rijksmuseum - Split the day between the canals and cobblestones of the city’s historic center and the masterpieces hanging in the Rijksmuseum. The tour will begin at the Rijksmuseum, Holland’s version of the Louvre, and learn about the highlights of its 8000 or so objects on display, including works by iconic Dutch artists like Rembrandt. This tour will introduce first-time visitors to the impressive and expansive collection that curates Dutch history over the centuries. For those who aren’t familiar with Dutch culture, you will explore its rich and vibrant past through a selection of paintings and artifacts from the 8000 objects on display. We’ll explore familiar names like Rembrandt while discussing lesser known items like 17th century dollhouses and Vermeer’s portrait of domesticity, “The Milkmaid.” There’s even a fascinating 19th century library containing more stories than we could ever tell. By the end, you’ll have a good overview of the museum’s collection and you may even know how to pronounce its name correctly.

Then after a break for lunch, The historical walk will introduce you to this capital city, known for its openness and vice as much as for its charming bridges and leaning houses. Wander the canals and get your bearings as you learn about the medieval gate and Amstel River that helped shape Amsterdam.

Excellent museum tour - Anna was an excellent guide and gave us new insights into the artists and their lives. I had expected just a tour of commentary on the art but Anna brought in many interesting facets about life in the Golden Age.

Amazing Overview of the Rijksmuseum - Jo was my favorite part. She was very knowledgeable and gave a very interesting tour that included everything from the stained glass windows to the dollhouses. Our tour was only 2.5 hours which given the breadth of items in the museum only scratched the surface. Very satisfied and would highly recommend this tour. Can't speak for the other tour guides but Jo was great!

Rijksmuseum Tour semi private - We were indeed fortunate to have a very knowledgeable and thoughtful Guide as Anna. The museum is really worth the visit. With Anna's informative and interesting analysis of numerous paintings highlighting the social context and significance of the subject matter of a painting, colours and artists technique. Her narrative was easy to follow and selection of paintings appropriate to the time available. Thank you Anna

Fantastic Tour of the Rijksmuseum! - I booked a small group tour of the Rijksmuseum, and it was honestly one of the best tours I've ever been on! When I booked this tour, it was for a small group, but apparently I was the only person who booked (I booked for a Monday in January, so not the high holiday season I'm sure) - where most tours would cancel due to low numbers, I was privileged to have a one on one tour of the museum, with the fabulous guide, Melissa. I cannot say enough good things about my experience - Melissa was so friendly, and so knowledgeable. I learned so much about both the history of the Netherlands as well as art history and theory in general. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour for anyone who has interest in history and/or art while they are visiting Amsterdam. I look forward to coming back to take more tours with this group. Wonderful experience!
