Highlights
- Haro - We will visit a spectacular subterranean winery beneath a centuries old village in the beautiful Ebro Valley of the La Rioja wine country. This winery will include a 1 hour tour and 3 subsequent tastings of their premium wines only available to clients who visit this special winery.
- Samaniego - Our next visits will be tasting experiences at boutique family-run wineries. We will have tastings of the most premium wines from their oldest vines. You will also get to sample their limited-quantity olive oil with fresh bread, cheese and chorizo.
- Laguardia - We will then head to the 10th century village of Laguardia for lunch at a local restaurant or pintxo/tapas bar depending on your preference and appetite. After lunch, we will take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful town pointing out sites of interest. There is also amazing photo opportunities of the entirety of the beautiful Ebro Valley.
- Bodegas Marques de Riscal - We will take you to see the Frank Gehry designed Hotel Marques de Riscal for photos and a walk through the vineyards.

Experience the essence of La Rioja, the apex of viniculture in Spain, through a journey from Bilbao that takes you through vineyards and wineries. You’ll be tasting the robust, berry-infused reds that have made Rioja a prime spot on any wine connoisseur’s map and appreciating the unique architectural designs of various estates, including one imagined by Frank Gehry. Accompany us on a guided walk through the ancient Basque town of Laguardia, ensconced within city walls, and soak in the incredible landscapes the region offers.
The tour includes a visit to three significant and iconic wineries that represent the peak of La Rioja’s winemaking prowess. These vineyards produce vintages that consistently rank within the top 100 Rioja wines, scoring over 90 on Robert Parker’s scale. Tasting sessions will include both red and white select wines, offering you a comprehensive understanding of the rich offerings of the La Rioja wine territory.

Such a fun day Wine Country Tour - This basque country wine trip is not to be missed. Our guide , Zack was friendly , knowledgeable and outstanding as our tour guide. We visited three wineries of stellar quality. The first stop was in a unique village . The winery tour took us deep into ancient caves where we saw a group of rare wines in a niche dating from 1892 to 1926.
There was a lot of history presented by the charming local tour guide including a story of Ernest Hemingway visiting this sight many times. The wines were reasonably priced and of good quality accompanied by cheeses and chocolate.
We visited two other wineries and then ended our tour with pintxos in the quaint mountain top village of LaGuardia with stunning views of the valley below.
We also stopped to take photos of the Frank Gehry designed hotel.
We shared our tour with two others ... newlyweds ...so fun.
You will not regret booking this tour with Zack.

Book this tour today! - We had the most amazing time on our tour! Zach was super knowledgeable about the area. They curated winery experiences that were fun and unique and all the wines we tasted were delicious. I cannot recommend this tour enough!

Highly recommended tour of La Rioja! - In addition to our tour of San Sebastian, we also booked a Rioja tour with The Best of Basque. It did not disappoint! We had an excellent day with Zach, who gave us a great background on La Rioja. We visited 3 very different wineries, with tastings of both red and white wines. We we also really enjoyed seeing the medieval town of LaGuardia, and the spectacular views of the valley. Thanks again, and we will be sure to recommend to our friends!

Best wine tour ever! - Our tour turned out to be a private one with Jani and Gorka. Jani was so knowledgeable, nice and just an incredible person all around. The three bodegas we went to were all unique and all of the wine we sampled was incredible (we shipped some boxes home). The tour ended in a nice town (Laguardia) for some pintxos before heading back to Bilbao. I could not recommend this tour enough as it was one of the highlights of our trip. Thank you for everything Jani!!

Fun, enriching and educational day in La Rioja - Amazing day spent exploring La Rioja! Jani was our wonderful tour guide and teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the Basque Country and well versed in the La Rioja history and wine production practices. We would recommend this experience to anyone eager to spend a day trying delicious wine, eating tasty snacks/pinxtos, and learning all about the beautiful land and people around you!

The best tour!! - We had the most incredible experience with Zach exploring the Rioja Alavesa region! Zach introduced us to three phenomenal family-owned wineries, each steeped in rich history of winemaking. Walking through the medieval town of Laguardia, dating back to the 10th century, was a true step back in time. The vistas of the stunning mountain ranges bordering the valley were absolutely breathtaking. Zach's knowledge and passion for the area made the day truly unforgettable. If you want to delve deep into the wine culture and history of Rioja Alavesa, Zach is the perfect guide to make it happen!

Super nice day with top guide Jani - Super nice day with top guide Jani.
Pick-up directly from the hotel followed by a drive to the Rioja wine region. During the drive, the basics of Basque history and its development into a wine stronghold were explained.
Afterwards, a visit to a unique wine cellar with centuries-old Rioja wines.
Finally, a tour of Laguardia followed by a return trip to the hotel.

The perfect One-Day Getaway from Bilbao - You can perfectly complete your visit to the Basque Country by going to this Wineries Tour; it is worth it.
As you go through the tour, you get to learn about local traditions, places to visit, Basque food and authentic restaurants, and see some beautiful little towns.
Jani and his husband care about your experience all the time. They are great when it comes to making your day.
