Additional Information

Many of Krakow’s most famous communist artefacts are alive and well. Hop in your Trabant (or our iconic Polish Fiat or crazy Soviet Lada) with your guide and travel back in time as you cruise through the city in a car manufactured by the Eastern Bloc. Head to the Nowa Huta district, famously known as the city’s communist enclave. Learn the history behind the neighbourhood that was Stalin’s ‘gift’ to Krakow. Wander the labyrinth of tenements, designed to be a model communist city. Hear the stories of life behind the Iron Curtain as you explore the epicentre of Poland’s resistance movement. This revolution led to the eventual overthrow of the communist government.

The ‘Communism Tour’ was featured in BBC’s ‘Palin’s New Europe’ series and covered by many international TVs and newspapers.

Entertainment and history - This was one of the funnest tours we have ever been on! The guide was a character who hilariously entertained us throughout the entire tour. My cheeks hurt from smiling so much! I didn’t think I’d enjoy the vintage car without modern comfort, but it was very comfortable and just added another element to the experience. We learned a lot about the communist era in Poland and the bunker was one of the coolest places I’ve been.

A very underrated experience! - We've had a really good time with our guide (Michal). She was very knowledgeable and she was clearly passionnate with the content of the tour. We also loved eating at the milk bar and getting a real polish experience (non touristy).

Fun tour with great insights into Poland's communist past - Brilliant experience of more recent history of Cracow and Poland. We had great laughs and an unforgettable experience. Maciek and Kornelia were so well informed and funny. Fantastic 2.5h. I'd highly recommend it.

The Commie Tour is a Must Do! - Between Cornelia’s vast wealth of knowledge about Poland’s communist past and the amazing little car in which we drove all over Nowa Huta I have to say it was an afternoon I will never forget. I saw a bunker untouched since its doors closed decades ago, a store that looks like time stood still, and so much in between. Cornelia was entertaining and extremely knowledgeable about the not-so-distant past. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in Poland’s history.

Be sure to check out the local milk bar after your tour! - This was an unexpected (but welcome!) addition to my time in Kraków. After completing some of the more common tourist activities in the area related to WWII, my friend and I were looking for something a bit different for our last day in the area. We were able to book this tour the evening before it took place, and we were so glad that things worked out! From getting picked up in a Trabant to getting to try communist-era fizzy drinks, the experience was both educational and delightful. I am also extremely glad that our tour guide recommended that we check out the local milk bar for lunch after the tour. It was the icing on the cake to our Nowa Huta experience.

Very disappointed. Very overpriced - Disappointed with this trip. Overpriced for a short tour. It was informative but nothing special. Can easily be done on your own. The tour guide was lovely but we felt rushed. Not at all impressed. It’s not fun or crazy just information and a spin in an old soviet car.
