Highlights
  • Galleria Borbonica - Galleria Borbonica is situated in Vico del Grottone 4, 100 meters from Plebiscito Square. Until a few years ago it was a veterinary laboratory, now this is the entrance of the Bourbon Tunnel. A staircase with 8 ramps, 33 yards deep descending into the belly of the Chiaia district in Naples. The second entry is in Via Domenico Morelli 40, through the crosswalk of ‘Quick parking’.

The Bourbon Tunnel was built in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon, who, concerned about the outbreak of a rebellion, asked for an escape from the Royal Palace to the barrack in Via della Pace, now Via Morelli. The work was however not completed and, during the second World War, the Tunnel was used by residents of the area as a military hospital, later becoming the Hall Judicial Deposit. The war left its mark even in the subsoil.

A must see and not expensive - They have done a great job of making this attraction from what was a rubbish dump. Good value for money. No one should miss it. A little harder to find the entrance than expected but not too bad. Exiting at a different point is completely understandable, but we ended up losing out bearing at the other end.

Excellent tour - The standard entry English tour was led by a very informative and knowledgable tour guide called David. He was very happy to answer any questions the group asked. At the end of the tour, the exit is in the Chiaia neighbourhood of Naples . It takes around 20 mins (walking) to get back to Piazza Plebiscito with the help of Google Maps.

Passion - I visited the Bourbon galleries together with a group of friends. Stefania, our guide, is super prepared, witty and above all passionate. He told us little anecdotes and took us back in time to remind us that only by keeping in mind what happened in the past can we write a new story. Thanks thanks thanks

Absolutely not to be missed! - Places full of charm and full of history, capable of leaving you speechless both in terms of visual and historical aspects. It takes you back in time. The guide, named Martina, was very good, engaging and friendly. He told us a long and complex story with great clarity. Absolutely an experience not to be missed.

Nice experience - Two entry points are available for this activity. It was nice to see I guess 40 meters underground to explore the secret and the history behind in this guided tour. Don't go with running toddlers :) i returned halfway as my boy was running and singing and reciting abc, and was disturbing others. Lol 😆
