Anzio was an emotional experience for me. - This was a visit to the WWII battlefield museum and American cemetery at Anzio where my father, who died in 2018 at the age of 99, fought and was wounded in combat. It was an emotional experience for me as he had always wanted to visit the cemetery to see if some of his friends were buried there. This visit was an add on to a already planned religious pilgrimage tour with another tour company of Sicily and Italy and at its conclusion, I added on this tour of Anzio and another of Pompeii. I booked this Anzio tour well ahead of time, well before arriving in Italy in January 2024. Our driver was Angelo and he was great. He was very understanding of my emotional involvement as I was constantly thinking of my father as we toured. In addition, for lunch break he drove us to a quaint old medieval town Sermoneta where we enjoyed a fantastic authentic Italian lunch on Sunday afternoon. I highly recommend this tour, and especially Angelo, for anyone with a tie to WWII veterans who fought in Italy/Sicily.
