Highlights
  • Sorrento - Begin your journey in Sorrento! Depart from Lauro Square at our meeting point - “Bar Kontatto” located at Corso Italia, 257.

  • Pompeii Archaeological Park - The ruins of Pompeii, a vast archaeological site in southern Campania near the Gulf of Naples, were once a bustling Roman city. Buried under ash and pumice after Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, the site now features excavated streets and houses for visitors to explore.

  • Forum - The Civil Forum was the heart of daily life in the city, surrounded by key public buildings for administration, justice, business, and commerce, including markets and main places of worship.

  • Tempio di Giove Capitolino - The Temple of Jupiter, located on the northern side of the Forum with Vesuvius in the background, underwent significant renovation in 80 BC to become a Capitolium. It housed statues of Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva, similar to those in Rome, on a high base visible from the Forum square.

  • Macellum - The Macellum, a tuff quadriporticus with an elevated worship hall on the eastern side, served as Pompeii’s city market. Located northeast of the Forum, it was designed to avoid overcrowding. The portico walls were adorned with scenes of daily life and mythological subjects.

  • Via dell’Abbondanza - This main street in ancient Pompeii connected the Forum with the Amphitheatre.

  • Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane) - Constructed in phases starting in the 4th century BC, the Stabian Baths featured a large courtyard, a pool, and separate men’s and women’s quarters with dressing rooms, cold, medium, and hot baths. The baths, renovated in the 2nd century BC, were a social hub for discussing politics, battles, and daily events.

  • Lupanare di Pompei - Known for its erotic paintings, this brothel housed Greek and Oriental slave prostitutes. The two-story building had the owner’s and slaves’ quarters upstairs and five rooms with built-in beds downstairs. The name “Lupanare” comes from the Latin word for ‘prostitute’.

  • Teatro Grande - Built in the mid-2nd century BC and later restored in Roman style, the Large Theatre hosted Greek-Roman comedies and tragedies. It was the first large public building excavated after the eruption.

Great taste of Pompeii - We booked this trip with our two young kids (3 years, 9 months) because it left early before getting too hot & included round trip transfers from Sorrento. It was well-organized and we were grateful for the good humor of the guide and the tour operator (Giovanna?) for looking after our pram while we carried our kids through the ruins. We had some issues getting to the meetup point (trains on strike - not their fault) and that it moved a lot faster than we anticipated (hard to keep up with the guide) we felt it was good value. If you want a quick taste of Pompeii and easy transfer from Sorrento this is your tour. If you want to wander the ruins in detail or visit the gift shops before leaving, it’s probably not for you.
