Additional Information

Molly, my canine companion, and I were astounded by the ample groups of tourists that flocked to the Battlefield. They merely spent under a quarter of an hour at Scotland’s most crucial conflict location before leaving Bannockburn. It seemed only right that the Battlefield’s narrative, the reasons for the fight, and how the Scots triumphed, should be properly narrated.

In response, we established Freedom Tour Today, ensuring a cordial greeting, a warm embrace, and express gratitude for the time spent in honouring Robert the Bruce, James Douglas, and all who engaged, perished or prevailed at Bannockburn.

Our alfresco tour around the Battlefield takes you through the Wars of Independence, the 1314 Battle, and the consequential events up to the present. We promise to regale you with tales of significant figures and ordinary individuals who influenced the battle.

In addition, we conduct a tour of Stirling Bridge, site of William Wallace’s most significant triumph. Freedom Tour Today provides a prime opportunity for us to greet visitors and delve into why these landmarks and Scotland are so cherished by many.

Well worth it! - This was an amazing experience! He was very nice, friendly, and welcoming! Out of all the tours I’ve done in Scotland this was definitely more informative and I actually learned alot about some of the History of Scotland. I definitely think this is a MUST DO if you are in Stirling. Even just passing through as it isn’t a super long tour!

Incredible experience - This was an incredible tour. As a battlefield enthusiast, I can’t recommend this tour more. Steven was not only super personable (he even brought me a coffee in the morning) but took me both on and off the beaten path for the battles of Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn. I had done a bunch of research on both battles before yet walking the ground w/ Steven as guide absolutely brought these historical events to life and I realized how little I really understood until I was being guided through it. If you love history and want a real sense of these two battles this is a must!

We’ll presented - We really enjoyed the explanation about how the battle unfolded. Seeing where some of my ancestors fought and were killed was an experience I will never forget. Thank you Chris

A warm welcome and terrific tour! - A terrific tour and guide - Stephen gave me the warmest welcome on the coldest of days to the Bannockburn site, beloved of both him and his gorgeous dog, Molly. His passionate and brilliantly informative tour of the site was fascinating, insightful and freshly told in Stephen’s own words - no hint of a spiel. It was balanced in content to include songs and poems, lesser known facts (eg on unsung heroes and heroines), and even some competing theories on how the battle was won. He went above and beyond to respond to all my questions - of which I had many, being there on a research trip. Highly recommend - any time of year!

Informative, but also relaxed and interacive tour - excellent! - Excellent, varied and informative tour with Steve and Molly to bring the site to life with the story and people of the Battle. Like many people I suspect I knew a bit but learned a lot more to fill in all the gaps I had to learn the full story, and loved the additional focus on the musical and poetic heritage which has evolved and lived on ever since. Particularly good that it is so interactive, with Steve encouraging you to share you own knowledge and views with him as you go along.

Informative, fun and we'll worth the money - We did the Freedom tour of Stirling Bridge and there were quite a few things I didn't know surpringsly , my husband is French but speaks good English but Stephen took the time to make sure he understood everything . He makes it fun and interesting mixing it with media on iPad as well as songs so it's not all just talking at us , was great really enjoyed it , well worth the money , a must to get in to the historical side before visiting any other sites

Very knowledgeable and flexible/accomodating - Steven is a highly knowledgeable, helpful, and accomodating guide. On the day of my tour, he was very happy to pick me up at a convenient spot, and to include Stirling Bridge ìnto what I had originally booked as the Battlefield Tour. In the end, he even dropped me off at my hotel after giving me a tour of the environs as they related to the battle! Rarely have I experienced such a level of concern for the members of a touring party. Steven is clearly passionate about the history of Scotland and the region, and I got a real tour de force of it. and took away a lot of information that will stay with me. Maybe the scene could be set with a little more context, but he nevertheless managed to leave a lasting impression. It's also nice to get some nuance on Braveheart. Steve comes with Molly, a lovely dog - not a huge problem, but maybe worth mentioning in the tour description.

Great history tour - We mistakenly booked the stirling bridge tour but steven was very kind and changed us to bannockburn at short notice, and then gave us info on the bridge history as a bonus. He and molly his dog were great tour guides and both adults and the 7 year old were fascinated by how he brought history to life. It was a friendly, family experience. We will be back.

The Bannockburn Stand... a view! - It was a great time spent on the heights over the Bannockburn, with Steven who was such an enthusiastic guide who loves this area which he roamed with his dear departed Molly, and who loves people. A great tour with Steve, as he showed and narrated the story in its physical location: great story of an incident that happened to Robert Bruce at the beginning of the battle when he took down the leader of the English who was charging him with a lance, while Bruce rode with a battle axe... to know how he defeated him, you will have to book up.
