Highlights

Lake Mývatn and the surroundings is a must see while exploring the north. First, you will be driven along the coast of Eyjafjordur. Begin by stopping at Goðafoss waterfall on your way to Lake Mývatn. The lake was created by a large basaltic lava eruption 2,300 years ago, and the surrounding landscape is dominated by volcanic landforms, including lava pillars and rootless vents.

Stop in Skútustaðagígar (pseudo craters) on the way to the unique lava formations of Dimmuborgir which are among the most popular tourist attractions in the Mývatn area. Also, visit Grjótagjá Rift, an old natural bathing spot filled with naturally heated water coming out of a rift. Stop at Selfoss waterfall and Dettifoss, one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe.

You will have the opportunity to take a bath in the geothermal water (at own expense). After the stop in the nature baths, you will be driven back to Akureyri. Your last stop is in Eyjafjordur where you can see over the fjord to Akureyri.

Great guide and beautiful country - Great experience! Weather was cold, wet and windy. Beautiful tour. Our guide Jowi was fabulous and went above and beyond when my son in law slipped and fell into a cave hot water bath. He was soaked. She called her brother to borrow shoes and pants and we stopped at a store to buy socks. So we got to finish our tour! Thanks Jowi!

What a fantastic tour! - We started in downtown Akureyri, with other tourists and our guide collected us at the Hof Cultural Center. Her name was Johanna. There were 8 of us on this 8 hour tour which proved to be fantastic! She was articulate regarding the land, culture, food people etc. It was fun and engaging. She was not just a guide but a generous host. We would highly recommend taking this tour. It was a great way to expose ourselves to this region of Iceland!

Great Exploration of the North - My wife and I visited Akureyri for a couple days. Our guide for this tour was Jowi and she was full of knowledge. Our group was a total of eight people which was perfect for exploring Godafoss, Dimmuborgir and other unworldly sights. We concluded at the nature baths at Myvatn, which was a relaxing experience of contrast in the warm water as cold rain fell onto us. Would definitely do it again! Thank you, Star Travel!

Great waterfall tour.....don'tmiss Aldeyjarfoss - We had a great 4 hour tour of waterfalls while in Akureyri. We started with Godafoss, which is spectacular but filled with busloads of tourists. We then went to Aldeyjarfoss which is far off the beaten path on a long, dirt road. There are no busses and few tourists and it was REALLY unique and spectacular. Our guide was informative and had a great sense of humor as well as being flexible with our schedule.

Great day out - Well worth it and probably the best guide we have ever had on a day tour. - Excellent tour with Thor ( the driver/guide) . We were on the tour with AndrewCardiff (one of the other reviewers). At every stop Thor would say 'let's say 45 minutes here ( or whatever time length), but don't rush - a few minutes late won't make any difference', so we never felt rushed. The length of time for each stop felt spot on - wasn't rushed, but conversely weren't hanging around for ages at places once you had seen what there was to see. Thor pointed out various buildings that he knew from growing up, a couple of relatives who were walking by the road and plenty of stories about the area what were personal to him. The stop at the nature baths was great too - quite quiet on the day we went, so no crowds. Really great day out - definitely the best day we had on our week's holiday to Iceland. As a bonus, due to the group size and weather, they used a super Jeep instead of a minibus!

Great local knowledge tour - Before we booked this we were thinking we could drive some of it ourselves but we’re really glad we booked a guided trip! Thor expertly guided us (just us and a family of 4) through all the sites in our comfortable 4x4,and as a real local growing up in the area he had lots of stories outside of the usual geology ones that added to the experience Everything was timed but never rushed which was also great… We would highly recommend it. Thanks!

Awesome, recommend this agency - Reynir was awesome, we were only a group of 2, he was very friendly and informative. Liked that he provided crampons, we saw other groups slipping on icy walkways. We skipped the baths so he modified and brought us a couple additional places that interested us.

Fantastic day with an excellent guide! - Our guide Daniel was incredible! He was a pleasure to spend the day with. He told us so much about Icelandic culture and traditions, past and present. It was so informative and I learned a lot, all while visiting incredible scenery and attractions in the north. I would highly recommend this tour!

Not a good experience - Not worth the money. The bus was overcrowded and the driver’s microphone didn’t work. We were in the back of the bus and never heard any commentary. Driver apologized but we had spent $500 and didn’t enjoy the trip.

Crowded bus and microphone not working - The tour had too many people, and the bus was absolutely full. We were cramped in the back seats. The driver’s microphone was not working, so those of us in the back couldn’t hear anything. She apologized, but really, we never heard anything about the places we were visiting. We also should’ve been advised about the midges. We could have brought nets.
