Highlights
  • Oberbaum Bridge - Learn the history of this unusual bridge: One of Berlin’s best known landmarks, the Oberbaumbrücke - connection between East and West - embedded in much local history.
  • Lohmühleninsel - A small parcel of land with an eventful history and some lesser known architectural monuments.
  • GDR Watch Tower - In the former border area during the partition of Berlin, the Wall here made the towns of Kreuzberg and Alt-Treptow peripheral areas of the city. A preserved relic is this watchtower.
  • Gorlitzer Park - Görlitzer Park is a recreational area for the neighbourhood. I’ll tell you anecdotes of its history and why it has a bad reputation today!
  • Falckensteinstraße - One of the central streets of the neighbourhood. Here you find an extraordinary density of international gastro offers. As a visitor, you could just try your luck. I show you personally tested highlights!
  • Wrangelstraße - The name-giving street of the neighbourhood. Find out why and see a church built in the style of a Romanesque monastery.

The amazing density of international gastro offerings continues here as well.

From here I give you the final option to rest in a Kiez pub or take you to the station Schlesisches Tor - where the subway is not underground.

Additional Information

Exploring local eateries in my beloved neighbourhood:

Come along on a gastronomic journey through the unique area known as ‘Wrangelkiez’ in Kreuzberg. Savour the remarkable range of cuisines and get to know the history behind the eateries. Encounter new tastes, from classic German treats to energetic global street food.

The trip is a blend of historical sites with stories from the locality and food sampling at five of my go-to restaurants.

The varying itinerary may feature Turkish, Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Peruvian, Austrian, Swedish, and German dishes. While Berlin’s kebab and/or currywurst are not part of the planned menu, they can be included upon request! A ‘snack’ isn’t just a tidbit, it’s a hefty serving - rest assured, you’ll be served a full meal throughout the tour.

Allow a local to reveal the gastronomic wonders of this Kiez!

Fusion of Food and History - Klaus had a lot of great information to share during the tour. The fusion of foods from different cultures was very refreshing.

Great gastro tour - Great tour, very personable and above all very competent tour guide. Although I have lived in Berlin for more than 30 years, I learned a lot of new and exciting things about the neighborhood from Klaus Wehner and discovered some very tasty restaurants. Very nice mix of cuisine and culture, highly recommended
