Highlights
  • Irazu Volcano National Park - The main attraction of this great tour is the Irazú Volcano with 3 sub craters and fumaroles in its beautiful turquoise lagoon, it is the highest active volcano in Costa Rica, just one hour from San José, this volcano is at 3,432 meters above sea level, being the second highest point in Costa Rica.

From the top of the volcano it is possible to appreciate the central volcanic mountain range, made up of 3 other volcanoes, it is possible to appreciate the central valley in its entirety and also on a clear day it is possible to see both oceans (Pacific and Atlantic) at the same time.

Is cloudy? Don’t worry, the clouds usually stay below the top of the volcano, this also allows you to have beautiful views, similar to those we have in a high altitude plane, but don’t forget your coat!

Get out of town - Great day! I really got out of town to see the real CR, volcano, chill in the air, fog cover, farms everywhere with coffee and produce, churches, and the ruins. Gorgeous landscape with tiered gardens.....a very special day!

Head in the clouds--LITERALLY! - Our tour guide Lenny was amazing! We were fortunate enough to have a private tour with her which made our experience that much better. She was very friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. There was never a dull moment she made sure to make us feel welcomed throughout the tour. During our lunch she let us have privacy to ensure my Wife and I had a romantic lunch at a very scenic location. Highly recommend this tour to anybody who wants to see a lot of what Costa Rica has to offer. P.S. the volcano is above the clouds, how awesome is that?

Beautiful landscapes - Impressive landscapes and excellent attention from Chuy. Although the view of the Volcano crater depends a lot on the weather, the site is well worth a visit. The view from the Osori Valley is beautiful and the lunch place is truly magical, in addition to the food being very delicious. 10/10

Good day trip - Well organised excursion with a guide (Max) who was very knowledgeable about the area and flaura and fauna. Unfortunately we couldn’t not visit the ruins but they offered us entry to Lankester Botanical Gardens which was lovely. Unfortunately the description on Viator shows that breakfast is included but the guide said that in 20 years he has never seen this offered, so come prepared and not hungry. The lunch spot had Great Lake views but food was very average.

Excellent tour, 100% recommended! - Hayro is very good both in explaining and in the personal relationship during the tour. He explains very interesting things to you and gives you time to enjoy. It is very worth both the tour and doing it with it. For us it was a super experience in all aspects. Pure Life!

I highly recommend it !!!!!! - Whenever I come to Costa Rica on business I always take the opportunity to go on a tour to some new place, this time I chose this option which is very full of historical information, we visited the ruins of a church that they tried to build for many years and the earthquakes knocked it down. The church of the angels which is very famous for its virgin, a beautiful viewpoint where you can see a river, another church from the middle of the old years, and finally an excellent trip to the crater of a volcano, full of vegetation and a delicious typical lunch. All these things are accompanied by an excellent guide with perfect English.

I loved the trip (:- - This is my second vacation season in this beautiful country. Thanks to Hayro, I have known history and magnificent places, this time we went to the Irazu Volcano, it was clear and we could see the crater, I also realized that before Cartago was the capital of the country and then no.... in short I love taking tours with Hayro because we learn not only of nature but also of the history of an entire country.

Fun Filled Day with Great Views - Overall the tour was okay. We ended up sitting on the bus for close to two hours while picking up other members of the group. Although I understand that it takes time to pick up multiple people, it required us (as the first passengers) to be picked up right at 6:00am. The tour information mentions a light breakfast will be provided, which would have worked for us since we left our hotel prior to the hotel breakfast start time. A light breakfast was NOT provided to us and we were required to cut into our volcano hike time to purchase breakfast for our kids who were starving by the time we got there. The time at Irazú was nice, as well as the botanical gardens and lunch was average. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I feel the whole day was a little rushed, but overall a positive experience. Please keep in mind that the mentioned time allotments for each activity are not accurate. You will have about an hour at the volcano. An hour at the botanical gardens, a quick 15 minute photo op at Basilica de Los Angeles and a 15 minute photo op at Ujarra Ruins. I suggest updating the time frames for each activity in the tour description so guests can plan accordingly and have an accurate expectation for each activity.

A drive you can probably do on your own - The top of the volcano was great to see, if you haven't seen the top of a volcano before, however, this was essentially a drive with a friendly driver, not really a 'tour' . the driver was very friendly and helpful and I don't want to say anything bad about it, but it was not really a 'tour' with a 'tour guide' therefore, the price is very high for essentially a friendly driver and probably $30 worth of breakfast and lunch. If you have a car you can definitely drive to it and see the volcano on your own, just be prepared for a long wiggly drive, but on well prepared roads. And we only 'drove by' The Ujarras Ruins . They were 'apparently closed' , but no verbiage or description of the history was provided...we just drove by them.
