Highlights
  • Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima - You will stop and explore the Sanctuary of Fatima for about 1 hour. Fatima is today one of Catholicism’s major shrines and is visited by 6 million people every year. It is said that the Virgin Mary appeared to three children – Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta – every single month from May 13th, 1917 until October 13th, 1917.
  • Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Nazare - This church was founded in the 14th century on the occasion of the arrival of King Ferdinand on a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Nazaré. It celebrates an ancient miracle that occurred under the intercession of the Virgin Mary.
  • O Sitio - Nazare is a fishing town full of nice places to stop and enjoy the ocean view (the town center is full of seafood restaurants). This is a cliff-top area 110 meters (360 feet) above the ocean, popular for its amazing views. There is a small chapel here that was built after 1182 by a local nobleman Dom Fuas Roupinho, to thank, Virgin Mary for saving his life here. Not far away from here, there is a baroque church built in the 17th century (Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Nazaré). You should relax here for a while and try a typical local restaurant for lunch.
  • Miradouro do Suberco - Here you’ll enjoy a clifftop promontory with superb views.
  • Praia da Nazare - To fully enjoy the Praia da Nazare and the southern part of the Nazare village, you’ll stop at the top of the Nazare cliff. This picture-perfect seaside scene is definitely something you should see.
  • Ermida da Memoria - You’ll explore the small Hermida da Memória chapel on the edge of the Nazare cliff. It was later visited by many famous pilgrims, including Vasco da Gama.
  • Praia do Norte - Praia do Norte get some of the biggest waves in the world. It was in 2011 that this beach hit the headlines when Garrett McNamara surfed a record-breaking 24-meter wave here.
  • Forte de Sao Miguel - The Forte de Sao Miguel is a 16th-century fort. It was converted into a lighthouse a long time ago. Has spectacular views over the ocean. Inside there is the Nazaré Canyon Interpretive Center.
  • Obidos Village - Óbidos is a medieval town that was taken from the Moorish army in 1148. Is since that time a walled city, with cobblestone streets and flower-bedecked, whitewashed houses. It was founded at the top of a hill where was possible to overlook the ocean, but the bay gradually silted up. Is since the 15th century a landlocked town. But Obidos it’s not only about medieval architecture, but it’s also about animated festivals, bookstores, small museums, chocolate and ginjinha (cherry-liqueur; 1 per person is included in the price). In recent years Óbidos has been reinventing itself as a literary center.

Great tour - Great tour and even better tour guide with Diogio! My only thing was the trip to Nazare. We were limited on time and we're told to grab a table order food and then walk around until food was them. The restaurant would not allow it so didn't have much time to explore. Other than that tour was great

Racism. - Amazing experience. Not to be missed. Guide did a great job. Not related to this tour, we saw extreme organized racism in Nazare where two different restaurants in the central square (Senhora d Nazare) refused to serve food to one black lady (who was traveling in our van). Bad bad representation of Portugal by the PORTO BELLO and MAR A VISTA restaurants who refused to seat this lady despite other customers speaking up for her.

Best Experience Ever - I went with LiLy (I believe I’m horrible with names) I think her full name was liliana. I changed guides to stay with friends who purchased tickets separate from me. She was fun, knowledgeable, reliable, respectful, and exceptional compassionate. It was the best experience ever!!

Great Tour - Great Guide (Thank you Ricardo!) - Fantastic way to see famous landmarks outside of Lisbon. Ricardo was a great guide and provided insightful information at every stop we made. He continuously surveyed the group to see if everyone is on board with the schedule or if we wanted more/less time at specific attractions. This degree of flexibility was a nice bonus to have. Would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a quality guided tour while in Lisbon.
