Mount Vesuvius is one of the two active volcanoes in mainland Europe. It stands proudly at a height of 1281 meters, characterized by a symmetrical core and steep forested sides. The entirety of the Mount Vesuvius National Park is picturesque and fruitful, speckled with small farms and vineyards nurturing traditional grape varieties that yield a unique terroir. A trip to the crater is highly recommended, attracting tourists worldwide who trudge up the path every year to gaze into its abyss. Our day will begin with a delicious lunch. Then we’ll drive up to an elevation of 1,000 meters, from where a volcanology expert guide will accompany us on a 20-minute walk to the crater. This point offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Gulf of Naples, while standing on one of Europe’s still active volcanic craters. Be sure to bring your camera, a jacket (even in the summer), and wear comfortable footwear. At the conclusion, we’ll head back to Naples and your hotel.
