Los Haitises National Park is an expansive wilderness of pristine mangrove forests, hidden beaches, historic caves and speckled islets throughout the San Lorenzo Bay. Its web of red mangroves spans miles, offering a natural safe haven for juvenile marine species from the predators of the sea. The park itself teems with a diverse variety of wildlife, featuring a myriad of bird, reptile, amphibian and crustacean species. Moreover, the park provides habitat for two endangered terrestrial mammals – the Hispaniolan Hutia and the Solenodon – exclusively inhabiting the Dominican Republic.
