- Nelly Bay - After boarding the bus at Nelly Bay terminal, you’ll be greeted by your friendly local guide who will accompany you throughout the day. Our guides are all locals with extensive knowledge about island life.
Following a brief introduction, you’ll travel through Nelly Bay to the island’s western side. Along the way, you’ll learn some background facts about the island and get an introduction to its geography and fauna.
- Magnetic Island History and Craft Centre - Closed on Tuesdays and from Australia Day to Easter.
Located in the heritage-listed Picnic Bay School and historic Butler Hut, the centre features a museum and sells locally made crafts and historical publications. The museum showcases island history through permanent displays and various annual exhibitions.
- Picnic Bay Jetty - An optional stop where we will explore its history, learn how it was saved from demolition, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
- Geoffrey Bay - No visit to Maggie is complete without stopping at Geoffrey Bay to see if you can spot some of our adorable Allied Rock Wallabies. These wallabies are unique to Northern Queensland, found only between Townsville and the Burdekin River.
Geoffrey Bay also offers a chance to get off the bus and get up close with our stunning rock formations.
- Horseshoe Bay Beach - As the bus ascends the long, steep hill towards Horseshoe Bay, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views across the island. You’ll then descend into the old farming area before we stop for an hour of free time in Horseshoe Bay, where a variety of food options are available.
During the winter, when butterflies are around, we’ll definitely visit the Butterfly Forest for a short bush walk. It’s an experience not to be missed and great for the soul.
Horseshoe Bay also offers year-round swimming, with a safe swimming enclosure in place during the summer months. It’s an excellent spot to cool off if you bring your swimwear.
- Aquasearch - After lunch, you’ll return to the ferry, giving you another chance to enjoy those incredible views. This time, we’ll travel through the back of Arcadia along the picturesque Hayles Avenue, with a short stop at Aquasearch Aquarium ($3 entry fee, cash only) where we’ll look for Nemo and Dory and discuss our Giant Clams, before heading back to the ferry terminal in time for the 3 pm departure to Townsville.
