Stanning experience - I have a beautiful experience. An stanning landscape to walk through and having the guide map to learn was great. I made the mud bath and sulphur pools. It was awesome! The mud bath felt fabulous and the sulphur pool so soothing. The staff were so friendly and lovely.

Walk Only - worth the visit - We only did the walk but were able to join one of the tour guides who provided insight on the history and fun facts about each of the pools.

Where the Earth breads - Not only have we seen the geothermal experience through the walk, but the weather showed us (almost) four seasons in a day. The reserve is well maintained and staff very kindly.

Amazing spot made better by our fabulous guide - An amazing place to visit. We chose the guided walk and so glad we did. Our guide Ngati (his full name was so much longer) was an absolute gem. His passion for his culture and heritage was so wonderful to see. His stories were so interesting and gave us a great insight into Māori culture. The walk was well paced and the views awesome. I would highly recommend a visit to Hell’s Gate if you are in Rotorua or even make a special trip it’s well worth it but do the guided tour it’s amazing.

The free tour is unmissable. - There is a free 90-minute tour each morning and afternoon by a Māori guide. We attended, it was fantastic and brought the place to life. Highly recommended.

Ignore the smell, admire the uniqueness! - Even though it stinks as soon as you get out of your car, the sheer uniqueness of this place more than makes up for it. There are numerous steaming lakes of mud, yellow trees, a hot waterfall, sulphur, mud volcanoes and boiling mud. Its a place you couldn't believe unless you were walking through it, and you can only imagine what was going through the first explorers of the area when they came across it. We finished off our walk with learning how to make a Maori timber carving, and the guys there were very welcoming and a great way to end our visit.
