Tour of Santo Domingo - Gregory was our guide, did a good job giving us historical information, and answering questions. Traffic is crazy in the city.

Dangerous and run down - Our experience was most unfortunate; too bad since the locals were very welcoming and friendly. Most places we went were closed and falling apart. A lot of the place looks abandoned. We were robbed by knifepoint in the middle of the day in the busy tourist area. My husband and I both used to work in law enforcement and have travelled the while world so we are not stupid or careless; this happened despite being very alert. Next day we saw an 8 yr old kid trying to get into the driver door of a nice car at a traffic light. There is a sense of desperation here and it felt very unsafe. Also it rained and the whole streets flooded immediately. There is no beach, the sand and water are full Of trash.
