Highlights
  • The Cathedral that sits on Kaptol in Zagreb is a Roman Catholic establishment and happens to be Croatia’s tallest building, as well as an impressive sacral structure of Gothic style found southeast of the Alps. It is devoted to the Assumption of Mary, along with kings Saint Stephen and Saint Ladislaus. Displaying typical Gothic features, including its high-value architectural sacristy, the cathedral’s towering spires are recognized as landmarks that can be seen from most areas of the city.
  • The Stone Gate or Kamenita Vrata is a significant landmark in Zagreb’s Upper Town. Originating in the 13th century, it assumed its current style in the 18th century. The area experienced a fire centuries ago where a not destroyed portrait of Mary was discovered among the debris. This picture was put up on the wall and has since been a prayer spot for many. They would affix a plaque on the wall as gratitude if their prayers got answered.
  • Zagreb’s Upper Town, also known as Gornji Grad, is a labyrinth of tiny, winding streets spanning between two hills: Kaptol and Gradec. It’s the oldest part of Zagreb, established in the 11th century, and has buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. The Upper Town is a charming area offering some of Zagreb’s most significant museums, restaurants, bars, and cafes.
  • The Lotrščak Tower stands in Zagreb, Croatia, in an old area known as Gradec or Gornji grad (Upper Town). The fortified tower, which hails from the 13th century, served as the guard tower to the southern gate of the Gradec town wall. The Latin term ‘campana latrunculorum,’ translating to ‘thieves’ bell,’ gave the tower its name, indicating a bell installed in 1646 to mark the closing time of the town gates.

Don’t think twice, book this tour! - I was not expecting to like this tour so much! The food and the drinks were excellent. Each restaurant was wonderful and the walking tour as well. I enjoyed getting to know more about the city, the country and the food. Dino made it very interesting and entertaining. Definitely a great way to spend an evening. I especially loved the beautiful place where we had the dessert.

Good orientation tour of Zagreb - Good experience, half city history tour, half food tastings with wine at several spots. Would recommend as an orientation to Zagreb. Vegetarian options were available, may be difficult for folks with mobility concerns due to nature of the walking tour.

Big Portions + Intimate Knowledge - My tour with Zdenka was fantastic. There were only three of us, so it was quite intimate and it felt like having a personal tour guide. Zdenka really knows her history and I learned an incredible amount about Zagreb--these tidbits are why I love tours with locals. Importantly, the food and wine was delicious. We made four stops, with each having a food and wine/spirit pairing. While she called them degustation-size portions, the food offerings were quite large--as it seems to be the norm in Croatia!--and the pours of wine generous, too. Highly recommended. Hvala, Z!

Great tour, great food, great leader! - Our guide "Z" did a delightful job of combining history and food of the region. We saw a totally different perspective of the city than on an early walking tour.

food tour in Zagreb - Our guide was amazing and spoke perfect English. She was an experienced traveller herself and was able to put Zagreb and its food in a wider historical setting. The food was excellent with good portions and came from resteraunts that specialised in typical Croatian food. It was all close to the daily Farmers market with food for sale on 3 floors. A fun tour. Be warned dont eat breakfast before this tour as we had to take some home in a doggy bag!

More food talk, less politics. - Good walking tour. The tunnel and funicular were unexpected bonuses. Our guide Tin could have spent more time describing the food we ate and less time on his political views.
