Highlights

Great Zimbabwe Excursion: Travelers depart from Bulawayo @ 7am for Masvingo.

Chivhu - Travellers will pass through the small farming town of Chivhu, located 140km South of Harare.
Chivhu was formerly called Enkeldoorn and was founded by Afrikaans-speaking Boer farmers and settlers in around 1850, and was the first white settlement in Zimbabwe. It became an Afrikaner stronghold in a predominately English-speaking white Rhodesia, giving it the nickname of ‘the Republic of Enkeldoorn’.
It was later renamed Chivhu after the Independence of Zimbabwe in 1982

Mvuma - Mvuma, previously named ‘Umvuma’, is a small mining town in Midlands province in Zimbabwe.
Located 192 km south of Harare along the Harare - Masvingo highway. Approx 100 km from Masvingo.
The main employer was the Athens Mine (formerly the Falcon Mine) owned by Lonrho Zimbabwe which mined gold, silver, and copper. It was closed down around 1996 due to a mine shaft collapse and the low price of gold. One may still see a huge chimney, on top of a hill near the mine, built in 1913 and visible from miles away.

Travellers can purchase some snacks and take a short break

Masvingo - Masvingo is a city in south-eastern Zimbabwe and the capital of Masvingo Province. The city is close to Great Zimbabwe, the national monument from which the country takes its name. Masvingo is close to Lake Mutirikwi or lake Kyle, and the Kyle National Reserve where there are many different animal species.

Great Zimbabwe National Monument - Travellers will leave early from Harare to Masvingo.

A wonder of the world - If you're even considering going to Great Zimbabwe, do not hesitate. For me, being there was on par with seeing the Pyramids and other ancient wonders of human achievement. The tour operator was fantastic. Tinashe's enthusiasm for the site was clear and he made sure everything was smooth and comfortable, and was a great person to road trip with! The roads were in great condition, so it was a very easy trip from Harare. Just go!
