Additional Information

Curious about the silent trade and the aftermath of the transatlantic slave trade?

The castles and forts functioned as exchange spots, where items such as beverages, medications, and clothing from Europe were swapped for raw commodities like minerals, foodstuffs, and cash crops from West Africa.
Since buyers and sellers did not share a common language, goods were traded using the barter system through what was referred to as the silent trade, where body language took center stage in communication.

Educational experience, friendly tour guides - I did a shorter version of this trip, which did not include a visit to the national park and used the guide at the castle. It was an educational and emotional trip. We had an air conditioned car, certainly a plus. My interactions with Addi were very positive, he went out of his way to make sure we had a good experience, which I really appreciate. Thank you!

a once-in-your-lifetime experience - Very professional driver and organiser, comfy car. We left early to avoid the traffic driving out of Accra and came back by 7pm. The Kakum national park was stunning, and the tour of the Cape Coast castle was a very deep, informative and painful experience that every person should do to grasp the violence and consequences of colonialism. We also had the possibility to go to the beach and jump into the water before heading back to Accra. Highly recommended!

Beyond the year of return Cape Coast and Elmina - This was an excellent tour. My tour guide Adi was very knowledgeable and had a great relationship with staff members at each of the tour points. This allowed us to get prime position, VIP treatment, at most of our stops. I learned a lot on this tour about the history Ghana, West Africa and slave trade, very informative. I highly recommend this tour.
