Curious about the silent trade and the aftermath of the transatlantic slave trade?
The castles and forts functioned as exchange spots, where items such as beverages, medications, and clothing from Europe were swapped for raw commodities like minerals, foodstuffs, and cash crops from West Africa.
Since buyers and sellers did not share a common language, goods were traded using the barter system through what was referred to as the silent trade, where body language took center stage in communication.
