Top 5 Site Ever! Prep for the Inferno! - I've traveled to 125 countries, including all 54 African countries. The Danakil Depression is in the top 5 most unique places I have ever seen! Many will go because of the surreal sites, especially the Dallol. However, just because it looks pretty in a photo doesn't mean it's a paradise. This trip is not for princesses and high-maintenance travelers. Here are some tips: - Prep for the heat. Bring an umbrella. - Because there are no showers for 3 days, bring wet wipes. - Assuming you fly from Addis, do NOT check your luggage (bring a carry-on). Ethiopian Airlines misplaced my luggage, so I was without it for 3 days. It's a 5-star experience and a well-run tour into Hades. I highly recommend it!

The surreal Danakil Depression - The Sulphur fields where amazing, as was the Vilcano we walked in and the landscape with passed through. Surreal !!! The trip was well organized and the staff friendly. Mickey came to my hotel in Addis and gave me honest information on the current security situation, I felt. This allowed me to make an informed decision to actually go on two tours with Danakil Depression Tours & Travel Simien Mountains 3 day tour Thank you an I would recommend this company Howard Symmes New Zealand

Excellent service - We recently returned from a 3-day trip to Danakil, and it was truly incredible. The sight of the lava flowing was unlike anything I had ever seen before. Witnessing such a rare phenomenon was a privilege. Mickey and his team provided excellent service throughout the trip, ensuring that everything ran smoothly from start to finish. I highly recommend this place and tour operator for anyone planning a trip to Ethiopia. Their responsiveness to questions was impressive. Thank you for creating such a memorable experience. We will definitely be using your services again for our next trip to Ethiopia.

Excellent trip in Danakil, kind boss and guides - We signed up for a three-day volcanic tour in Danakil, along with a half-day city tour of Addis before Danakil. For the Addis half-day tour, the boss, Mickey, and our guide, Ashu, took us to a local restaurant to experience the delicious cuisine of Ethiopia. This made us to feel the hospitality and kindness of Ethiopian people. We also had a great talk with Mickey in the square, making it a very memorable journey. The next day, we flew to Danakil to join the three-day tour. At the moment, there weren't many tourists, so all the travel agencies grouped together to start on the journey. Our group consisted of around ten people, split into three or four vehicles, with one guide, chefs, and police for our protection. Our driver was very friendly and spoke excellent English. We were incredibly lucky to witness a massive volcanic eruption, creating a truly perfect memory. After the Danakil tour and we returned to Addis, Mickey even arranged for someone to pick us up at the airport and take us to take a shower. Mickey is an excellent boss, and Ashu is a super funny and kind guy. We left with truly wonderful memories of our time in Ethiopia.

Once in a lifetime! - This place is out of this world! For safety reason we had to start from Semera rather than from the more close Mekele and I honestly couldn't have been happier with the drive. You move through one type of desert to another, from lave rock to dried rivers, from salt lakes to sandy deserts. Just beautiful. We were a group of 8 travellers plus the team that was taking care of us, driving in comfortable and fresh cars (4x4). The AC worked smoothly and that is very important since temperature are crazy in this region. The team was perfectly prepared with enough water and so much food for everyone! I really enjoyed the company of the travellers as well as the great chat with the team that took us there. A special mention goes to our head guide: Fana Tesfay! Amazing person to follow in this adventure, always with a smile and ready to explain whatever random question might come to your mind. She really know well how to move in this environment and watching her climbing up the vulcano with such nonchalance made me feel so much more safe and at ease. Always available to have a chat and tell you story about the beautiful places Ethiopia has to offer! I'd recommend this tour 100% hopefully I'll find my way back there to go see all the places I didn't have time this time! Thank you again for this once in a lifetime experience!!

Amazing Experience with Danakil Depression Tours! - I had been wanting to do a tour of Erta Ale and the Danakil Depression ever since I first heard about it a year or two ago. I had a business trip to Kenya in August, and knew that would be a great time to visit Erta Ale, so I started my planning. I contacted several tour companies and decided to go with Mickey from Danakil Depression Tours. He wasn't the cheapest, but I was looking for the quality of the trip over saving a few dollars. I'm a photographer on the side and Isaac had a tour tailor made for photographers, so it was an easy choice. I also went with the 3 day/2 night tour, which I think is best as you get to see everything that the 4 day tours have, but have less driving and only two nights spent in some pretty primitive conditions. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend it. Seeing the bubbling and exploding lava was incredible, and I would have to compare it to seeing the total solar eclipse of the sun that I witnessed earlier this year in Oregon. Isaac handled all the details and made us feel safe the entire time. We were there 3 weeks before the German tourist was shot, so we didn't have that incident fresh in our minds, but I would still do it all again. It was definitely roughing it and with the heat and no toilets kind of miserable, but amazing at the same time.

Most incredible thing you'll ever see. - We went on a 4-day trip organized by Danakil Depression Travel and Tours (fantastic company), and as it was low season there were only eight visitors in the group. Erta Ale is without a doubt the most incredible thing I've ever seen. The trip gets off literally to quite a bumpy start with a journey along the worst road in the world (not actually a 'road' - more cross-country on rough basalt rock, luckily in a 4WD), we reached a small village where we relaxed until it cooled down a bit (to like 40degrees), and then made the journey upward toward the volcano crater. It took ) an hour and it is absolutely ROASTING. The only advice I can give is to drink plenty of water (provided by the tour company), wear the lightest clothes you can, and keep lathering on sun cream. When you're around 2km from the crater and it's a bit dark you can see a light red glow from the lava lake. When it gets dark, you should take the time to admire the stars because at the crater the light from the lake and the moon will literally outshine them and you won't be able to see them. The lake itself is hard to describe but it's 1800 degrees celsius of hot molten rock and every few minutes a different part of it lights up and starts sparking. It's an absolutely incredible sight and something to experience with all five senses - the heat coming from it is insane and prevents you getting too close, the slight burning smell, the feel of the splinters of cooled lava (spindle-like bits stuck in the rock) and I didn't taste any rock but I'm sure it would be unique. We camped around a ten minute walk from the crater, revisited it again in the morning at 4AM and started the journey back at 5AM before the sun got too hot. Definitely worth visiting, the trip of a lifetime!

Memorable Trip - It is indeed a memorable trip to the paradise on earth( Ertal Ale & Dallol) well organized by Danakil Depression Tours. Right from logistics of travel arrangements, accommodation, food, sight seeing places and service Danakil Depression travel and Tours have proved their worth being second to none in the Industry. Almost everyone in the Group enjoyed the accommodation provided, the food and choice of spectacular places visited within a short span of 3 days. Services of the young Tour Manager looking after the logistics and comforts of all in the Group were very good although he needs more coaching to become perfect. Certain lapses could have been avoided by paying more attention in that area which will come by experience. Overall it was an amazing experience going around the places in a Group well managed by Danakil Depression Tours.
