Dunstaffnage Castle & Chapel - Discover the history and beauty of Dunstaffnage Castle in Oban with our experienced guide. This 13th-century castle sits on a dramatic rocky promontory overlooking Loch Etive, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and water. During the tour, you’ll explore the castle’s ancient walls and towers, including the well-preserved Great Hall and the 16th-century gatehouse. Our guide will share the fascinating stories of the castle’s former occupants, including the MacDougall clan, who once ruled the region. You’ll also have the chance to visit the castle’s chapel, which played a central role in a tragic event. In 1644, the castle was the site of a massacre when a group of Covenanters, who had been attending a wedding in the chapel, were attacked by Royalist forces. Our guide will recount the harrowing tale of the massacre and the events that led up to it.
