The tour with Nazperi was awesome. - Nazperi is the best guide I've ever had the opportunity to have a tour with. Explanations were on point and accurate. Even though the subjects and history were complex, she always gave concise and precise information. I learned a lot about how the situation of Azerbaijan is getting better everyday since Haydar Aliyev (and now his son) became the leader of the country. Baku and Qobustan were great! Highly recommend. 5 stars.

Great Tour - The tour was great with the Mud Volcanoes, Gobustan, and the Fire Temple really worth visiting. The included lunch was also good with many portions and responding to dietary restrictions. The tour guide Sebuhi was really good and provided great information and details along the way. Overall a great tour of places outside of Baku

Day trip outside of Baku - Sabuhi our guide for a day. Did a great job. A lot of knowledge, patience and responsibility and concern for travelers. Very good English, excellent accent and easy to understand. The ATI tourism company complied with everything written in their advertising. They picked us up on time and made sure that, in addition to the good guide, we would also be accompanied by a manager responsible for logistics, of course there was a suitable vehicle with a good driver.

The Guide was the Main Problem - Gobustan was fascinating - this low score is because of substandard guide and bad lunch. Several places in Gobustan involved steep climbs and/or many and/or tall steps ( without railings ). . He was Not helpful NEVER giving a hand even though he clearly saw I was sometimes having difficulty . There were only 3 people in our group. Of which 2 were women ( one likely in thirties and me, a senior citizen). He also rushed us at times. We shared the bus with a small Russian group - who were directly behind me . The Russian guide was actively involved with his small ( 2 adults and 2 children ) group during the lengthy bus rides— our guide spent almost the entire time on the bus looking a his cell phone. The lunch also was disappointing- possibly the worse meal I have had during my week in Azerbaijan.

Good sights, but could be better run - This tour takes you to some of the top spots around Baku. I would not book through this company again. The tour guide said our group was "way too large" and lost track of the group regularly, including leaving a guest at one of the attractions. The guide (English-speaking) seemed uninformed and couldn't answer what seemed to be basic questions. He seemed uninterested in providing insights beyond what was relatively obvious, and likely part of a script. A Russian-speaking guide was also in our vehicle, and he provided about three times more information to the Russian speakers in our group. At the Gobustan museum, it is well signed, and it might have been easier for the guide to simply give us 30 minutes to enjoy the museum on our own instead of fighting through crowds to hear his commentary that wasn't very insightful. I recommend this company hire people who care about sharing Azerbaijan with foreigners, and don't just see it as a way to make some money on the weekends. Lastly, this tour is marketed to foreigners. Operate at foreign standards, meaning, guides refrain from smoking inside the restaurant at lunch.

Not Worth It - I need to start this off by saying I'm a very low maintenance person that is easily impressed. An experience truly has to have some low points for me to feel anything negative about it. To start- the tour started 2 hours late and was blamed on traffic caused by the president commuting to work- which he does at the same time and same route each day so it didn't really make sense. Other's have pointed this out in their reviews but the Lada trip to the mud volcanos was not ideal. The guy was going 110Kmh (70mph) on recently rained on muddy gravel roads. We saw other cars that had flipped so the danger was real. No seat belts. The volcanoes were not interesting which is not the tours fault but definitely not worth the drive there. Another negative was the lada driver aggressively asking for a tip after the experience- which I declined- but our tour guides scolded the people who did give in and give the guys a tip. They said it was bad and encouraged them to continue with their bad behavior- but our guides did not tell us this beforehand. The guides on the trip weren't great and overall most sites weren't interesting. Do not recommend.

Not Impressed! - The most memorable, but not in a good way, was the nightmare journey in a so-called 4WD Russian Lada, with a maniacal driver, out to the unimpressive ‘little volcanoes’ which in reality was bubbling mud. We’d much rather pay more to be driven in a safe and actual, 4WD vehicle such as we saw other visitors being driven in. Not only was our driver using his mobile phone to make calls and text whilst driving with one hand at full speed on wet and extremely bumpy dirt roads but he was also verbally abusing other drivers in deafening volume. The four of us passengers yelled at him numerous times to slow down and stop texting but he totally ignored us saying he did this every day. One day, there will be a terrible accident, most likely with lives lost. The front passenger seat was tied up with string to limit movement and there were no seatbelts for the passengers. In Australia the vehicle would not be allowed on our roads. This driver, and all the other ones for this part of the trip, were 40 minutes late to pick us up from our bus, making a long day even longer. Our bus driver was very safe and kept to the road rules and our young guide, Emin Gulmammadli, was very good with great English language skills and knowledge of the history of the places we visited. The tour manager for the company that Viator engaged for this tour was actually overseeing our trip and came with us on the bus. We first met him while we were waiting for our bus to arrive in the morning when he came up to us and asked if we had any tissues. He then asked us which tour we were doing and who with. On being told we booked with Viator, he didn’t know the name and told us it was a VERY boring day trip! He was very surprised when he saw us get on his bus and backtracked by saying it was a great tour. We weren’t very impressed with his attitude and along with the terrifying side trip to the mud volcanoes, we feel that Viator will get a bad name by allowing passengers lives to be put at risk. It’s not just us complaining about this, everyone on the tour had similar experiences to us and all were complaining bitterly after they got back. One young man was even prepared to jump out of his window if he had to. We have a video of the last couple of hundred metres, but it was flat road at that stage and nothing can really describe the experience apart from being there. I have booked six day trips through Viator for our 5 week holiday and certainly hope that our final two will be trouble free. Rosalie Pearson
