Highlights
  • Belgrade - Our tour starts from your accommodation, and we head toward Western Serbia, known for its wild and untouched nature, tasty cuisine and friendly and hospitable people.

  • Gate of Podrinje - Our first stop is one of the most famous viewpoints in the area called “Kapija Podrinja.” From here, you can enjoy a breathtaking view and admire the stunning scenery made of surrounding mountains and the Drina river. After a short ride, we will reach our next stop, Bajina Bašta, a small town in the foothill of Mt. Tara.

  • Drina River House - Here, we will see the world-famous attraction, “The House on the Drina,” an isolated house made of logs on a river stone. It’s one of the most photogenic sights in the region

  • Mokra Gora - We will leave the house behind us and continue our trip just in time to make it for the departure of the famous Sargan Eight scenic train.

A unique narrow-gauge railway nowadays serves only for the amusement. During our ride, we will pass and stop on several viewpoints from which one can see fabulous views over Mokra Gora. Authentic cars with wooden seats, wood-burning stove, and characteristic rattling sound will take us back in 1925 when this railway was put in operation and made a connection between Belgrade and the Adriatic Sea.

After almost two and a half hour ride, we are returning to the departing station from where we continue our journey to the nearby Mećavnik, or Drvengrad (Wooden City).

  • Drvengrad - Our next stop is “Drvengrad” or “Timbertown”. The famous director Emir Kusturica (two times Palme D’Or in Cannes winner) decided to build it during the shooting of his film “Life is a miracle.” He chose to convey ruined wooden chalets from the slopes of the mountain, to restore them, equip them with luxurious facilities, and to form a new settlement. Quirky flourishes are everywhere: the Stanley Kubrick cinema shows Kusturica’s films, and vintage cars are parked on twisting streets named after celebrities such as Bruce Lee and Diego Maradona (about whom Kusturica made a fascinating documentary).

Here we will make a stop to enjoy a traditional lunch made of specialties of the very famous cuisine of Western Serbia, irresistibly delicious and very piquant. (not included)

After the meal, we will head back for Belgrade.

  • Belgrade - We’ll arrive in Belgrade late in the afternoon. End of services.

Enjoyed it. - Great day trip. It can be long but it’s worth it. Our guide Nevena was amazing. She gave us good insights into Serbian culture, history, geography and really made the sights come alive. The house on the Drina is cute and unique. The wooden town is quite the idea - don’t demolish a film set but turn it into a tourist attraction. Kitschy but works :). And the train ride was a nice slice of history. Pickup and drop off were right on time. Coach was comfortable and everything was as promised.

Amazing 16 Hour Layover - We actually did the Northern Serbia tour, with the Monastery, Fortress, Novi Sad, Srenski Karlovci tour with Aleksander. It was an incredible experience. We only had the 16 hour layover before we were heading to Ohrid for a wedding. However, this was very much worth it. Aleksander was wonderful. Our plane was delayed 2 hours into Belgrade and he came to pick us up at the airport. We then got to hear all about the beautiful monastery. In Srenski Karlovci he ordered us coffees and told us all about how amazing Belgrade is which prompted us so spend a few more hours there after the tour. At the Fortress, we got amazing views and pictures. Then I’m Novi Sad, he gave us great food recommendations. Overall, he was wonderful and this was a great tour. We ended up staying in Belgrade for dinner and he gave us a recommendation for where to find good food and also how to get a taxi to the airport. We had a wonderful time and he helped us fall in love with Serbia. We plan to go back so we can experience more of the beautiful country!

truly fabulous tour guide | a wonderful day exploring Serbia | highly recommended - This is a trip which is highly recommended to anyone interested in seeing the incredible transitions in landscape Serbia offers to those curious enough to explore this great country, The change from the rolling plains of Vojvodina to the mountains of the western regions is dramatic, and the choice of stops along the route of this (quite long) day trip is well considered; the charm and invention of Emir Kusturica's Drveni Grad (Wooden Town), the wild exposure of the House on the Drina, and the incredible civil engineering achievements of the Sarganska Osmica (Sargan 8 railway) were all very memorable experiences. We were guided and driven by Uros, who was both charming and deeply knowledgable about the history and geography of his country, and put everything we saw - and much more - into serious context. Uros is a paradigm for all tour guides, and we cannot say enough good things about his professionalism and caring attitude to our group of travellers.

Fell in love with Serbia - Really enjoyed this trip. Jovak made it so much better. He was an incredible driver and tour guide with so much knowledge. I feel like I had a tour of the beauty of Serbia and a history lesson all at the same time. It was a great way to be introduced to a small part of Serbia’s rich culture, the wonderful people and the great landscapes. Unfortunately due to one traveller being late, it delayed our whole trip and we had less time in some areas, but this didn’t matter too much at the end of the day because all locations were worth it. The best parts for me were the scenic views of Mokra Gora, learning about the history of Serbia, and the Sargan train. If you have to option to, try and get to the train ride as early as possible, because it was so packed and we had to stand outside to get the best views of the landscapes. All in all I highly recommend this tour!

Belgrade short vacation - You can go to the city from Belgrade Nikola Tesla airport in several ways. We preferred a taxi, the taxi fare between the airport and the city is 25-30 Euros. Belgrade local traffic is very gracious. It doesn't take much time to go from one place to another. However, since we stayed in the city center, we walked to many places or took the publicbus sometime . Their food is delicious and affordable. Portions are quite large. You can eat some portions for two people. There are not many historical monuments in the city of Belgrade. But Nikola Tesla's house is quite interesting. Also , St. Sava cathedral is worth seeing place... You can see the view where the Danube and Sava rivers meet from Kalemegdan park.
