Highlights
  • Belgrade - Your trip will begin with pick up from your hotel/accommodation in Belgrade, and we head toward the Northern Serbian province of Vojvodina.
  • Vojvodina - Two hours of our ride we will spend enjoying the colorful landscapes of the Pannonian plain and hear stories about the turbulent history of this area.
Home to more than 25 ethnic groups, with six official languages in use, Vojvodina represents a diversity unheard of in the rest of the country.
Fine chernozem soils make Vojvodina the agricultural heart of Serbia, and the region supplies much of the country’s wheat and corn (maize). They have a saying in Vojvodina: “if you drop a button into the ground, next spring, you will harvest a full coat.”
  • Palic Lake - After 2 hours drive, we reach our first destination – Palić lake. Only 8 kilometers away from Subotica, this lake has been one of the most visited locations in Serbia for many years, primarily because of its landscaping and beautiful early XX century architecture.
It is the largest natural lake in Serbia, almost 5km in diameter and a maximum depth of 3.5 meters. The shore of the lake is 17 kilometers long, arranged along its entire length. According to a legend that the locals will gladly tell you about, Palić is a lake formed by shepherd Paul tears, who lost his flock there, and because of that, water in the lake is salty. During the relaxing walk, we will see the most significant attractions. Entrance Gate - Water Tower: The idea of architects was to enter the park through the richly decorated gate - Water Tower, The Grand Terrace, Music Pavillion, “Bogojvar “, also known as “Owl tower “,
  • Subotica - After a pleasant time at the lake, we take a short drive to Subotica, known for its relaxed atmosphere, good food, and quality wines. Rich cultural heritage assets, lavishly decorated buildings, multicultural spirit, and European charm – these are the features that make this city distinctive. During 1.5 hour walk we will see the most famous landmarks:
Ferenc Raichle’s Palace, which opened in 1904, is a fascinating example of Art Nouveau architecture. The Synagogue in Subotica, built in 1902, is one of the most beautiful synagogues in this part of Europe. Cathedral Of St. Theresa Of Avila was built in the late baroque style from 1773 to 1779. Among locals, it is known as The Great Cathedral, dedicated to the patron of Subotica, St. Theresa of Avila, whose character is on the coat of arms of Subotica.
After a walk through the city center, you will have time to explore and enjoy Subotica’s streets and squares and taste the far-known local cuisine.
  • Sombor - From Subotica, we continue to Sombor, a town widely known for its greenery, more precisely for the American hackberry tree, brought from the Mississippi Valley in 1903 and rightly bears “the greenest city in Europe” epithet. Walking through the center, we see several impressive sights: The Holy Trinity Square, The City Hall, The Church Of St George The Martyr (The Great Orthodox Church), The Carmelite Convent with the Church of St. Stephen the King…
  • Belgrade - After a peaceful day in the Vojvodina plains, we head back to Belgrade, with a planned arrival time in the late afternoon.

Additional Information

In Subotica, your senses will be delighted by the vivid hues and remarkable architecture that is a testament to its historical importance and prosperity during the Austro-Hungarian empire. This thriving city caters to all tastes. Spend some time exploring the Cathedral of St. Teresa of Avila and the Synagogue, or devour the beauty of the governmental structures: the City Hall and the City Library. Palić, the biggest natural lake in Serbia, spans approximately 5km and can reach depths of 3.5 meters. The 17-kilometer lakeshore is fully developed and according to a local folk tale, Palić was formed by the tears of a shepherd named Paul who lost his sheep, which explains the lake’s salty water. Sombor, renowned for its lush environment, particularly the American hackberry tree that was transplanted from the Mississippi Valley in 1903, has rightfully earned its title as ‘the greenest city in Europe.’

Prettiest Architecture, Hands Down - Serbia has a long history and more diversity than one may think, and it is nowhere more apparent than Subotica and Somber - both beautiful towns! I could not get over the blue! My guide was very informative and answered my millions of questions about the history there and about the different ethnicities in the area. I even warned him that I planned on uploading the ~perfect~ post on IG in front of that iconic building. He worked with me to find the best candid pose of me and I wound up posting the perfect image that got me hella likes on Insta, haha. He was really patient and professional. The conversation with the driver was also great as he answered my questions about life in Yugoslavia. We also stopped for the most delicious burek, and it was a life changing cheesy experience. Definitely my most scenic tour in Serbia... I may have to change my retirement plans from Bansko to Subotica. No filter needed

Well-arranged and very professional - The tour was wonderful. The car arrived exactly at the time communicated to us (down to the minute, literally!) on all three trips we took. The guide - Stefan Nemanja on this tour - was knowledgeable and communicative, it was a great pleasure to talk to him. The duration of the trip was also reasonable (long enough to cover many interesting spots and short enough not to cause road-sickness, which I'm unfortunately prone to). The schedule mentioned in the program was closely followed. Driving by Mr. Djordje was also safe and comfortable. Given that this was a private tour, both the guide and the driver made every effort to ensure that we are satisfied. Long story short, I have every reason to be pleased. P.S. I would also like to thank Uroš, the operations coordinator, for recommending me this (and other tours) and for being very responsive to my questions and requests both before and after my arrival in Serbia.
