It includes the highest peak of Maglić at over 2,386 metres (7,828 ft), on the border with Montenegro. The Montenegrin part of Maglić massif in the park has also formed the Trnovačko Jezero (Trnovačko Lake). The Strict Nature Reserve “Perućica”, one of the last two remaining primeval forests in Europe, is part of the park. Additional Information

Inaugurated in 1962, the park holds the distinction of not only being the largest but also the first national park to be declared in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its establishment, interestingly, was driven more by its historical significance in certain battles as opposed to conservation grounds. The park spans a vast area of approximately 17,500 hectares (43,000 acres).

Situated within the confines of the national park is the Perućica forest reserve, initially setup in 1952 as a ‘Natural reserve for scientific and educational purposes’. Perućica is noted for being one of the final two untouched forests in Europe and ranks amongst the five Strict Nature Reserves in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Fantastic addition to your trip! - This is an amazing trip to the largest rainforest in Europe, the landscape is basically untouched and it’s so peaceful. The views are beautiful and there is a range of trails to suit every ability. Our guide was fun, friendly and knowledgeable and helped us with everything, as well as providing us with snacks and water. If you enjoy getting outdoors and breathing in the fresh air you’ve got to book this!

Sutjeska A Must See ! - Amazing experience from beginning to end ! Our guide was very timely in picking us up, spoke both English and Bosnian fluently so was able to translate any information we saw and asked about. Had small snack packs ready for us with water, chips & a pastry. The park is absolutely breath taking and contains so many historical stories that are incredible to hear from the locals who work there. There’s many options on what you can do but we choose to walk around a lot to get the most of the scenery. The tour itself is a bit pricey and does not include any entrances but I will say the tour guide was kind, reliable and helpful.

Highlight of our trip to Bosnia - We had an amazing day visiting Sutjeska National Park. The park itself is incredible, the landscape is virtually untouched and the fact that was the setting of a crucial battle that was a turning point in the history of the world gives it a very special feeling. There are no words that can describe the beauty of this place, but what made it extra special was Sasha, our incredible guide. He was the perfect companion for this trip very informative, patient, gave us options to add to our itinerary and took amazing pictures of us along the way. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in nature, history, or someone who would like a great day away from the city.
