Highlights
  • Seven Ladders Canyon - We start the tour from Brasov (we pick you up from your location), head to the Seven Ladders Canyon (Canionul Sapte Scari) in the Piatra Mare range, part of the Southern Carpathian Mountains. This stunning gorge is famed for its steep ladders that take you up the rock walls past a series of rushing waterfalls.

On arrival, set off along meadow and forest paths, reaching the canyon after a 45-minute hike. Then, opt to rest here or enter the rock chasm with your experienced guide. Head inside, and spend the next 15 minutes or so crossing the bridges and climbing each of the near-vertical metal ladders that make up the gorge. As you go, enjoy thrilling close-up views of the tumbling waters and the towering rock walls around you.

After your trek, rejoin your group and choose between a 1.5-hour return route or a harder 2 to 3 hour trail, walking back through forests and glades to your vehicle.

After your hike, your tour ends back at your Brașov hotel.

Great guide, scenic not strenuous, close to Brasov - While the walk was very nice — and since we went at 9 on a Tuesday, no other people — the best part was the history and information from our guide, Zsolt Bara. Local history as well as being able to provide hiking/wilderness informations, and information on other regions of Romania. Since both I and the other tour member were Austrian/German we learned some cool things about the German influence since the days of the empire. Also no one was eaten by bears, so very good! (Joke of course) This is especially good for someone who has not been in Romanian hiking before/wants a more involved trip out. Because you can hike anywhere in the world, but you can only get this kind of experience with local informations. Also nothing to be afraid of, these ladders, as long as you don’t have phobia of climbing.

Great hike with our favorite guide and dear friend - Big Thank you! to our guide and dear friend, Marian @Active Travel for an amazing hike and experience. The 7 Ladders Canyon is wonderful. We continued through the woods all the way up to Piatra Mare hut and Piatra Mare peak. The views from there are fantastic. Hiking with Marian is always a pleasure. Strongly recommend!

Fantastic walk through a beautiful canyon - My husband and I had a great morning with Zsolt walking to the 7 ladders canyon. It's a beautiful walk and as we left nice and early we avoided the crowds and the heat. The walk itself is a little up hill at times but generally was very manageable. The canyon was great and the ladders allow you to get right in the middle of it, climbing up along the side of one part of the waterfall. I can really recommend this trip.

Beautiful canyons on a mountain full of forest - Unique experience where you can see the water rushing through the canyons in the mountain. An experience that should be tried when you are nearby

Amazing Trip - just do it - Cannot recommend this trip enough. We were collected from the hotel and taken accompanied in the hike to 7 ladders canyon. Alex the guide was patient and supportive and showed us the best way to climb the ladders. He was knowledgeable about Romania and shared a lot of interesting information. The views were stunning and it was a fabulous way to spend a morning - highly recommended and good value. Thank you.

Fun and scenic - I went with a friend to this tour in in August 2022 with Kartsi as guide. It was a very nice hike. The nature is beautiful and the canyon is much bigger than I expected. Kartsi knows the canyon like the palm of his hand and we had a great time. Totally recommended.

Seven Ladders Canyon - I went to the Seven Ladders Canyon. It was an amazing experience! Breathtaking autumn landscape! Dan, the guide, got in touch in the evening before in order to reassure the meeting point and give some clothing advice. He has a great knowledge of the city, of the history of the country and, most importantly, great knowledge of the outdoors activities. Going on hiking with a professional guide was totally worthy! Dan was the best! Thanks Dan for the amazing experience!

Hike- Climb-Hike - A great morning's exercise after a hotel pick up, and short, comfortable ride in the guide's car. I was hoping for a small group tour, for which I was prepared to pay the £30 for. The weather forecast was, however, not very good for the day - although, as it turned out, the rain did actually hold off until completion - and so this must have deterred any other potential bookings. Consequently, the price tripped up to £50 - which I was aware might be a possibility at the point of purchase - as my 'small group tour' was now going to be in effect a 'solo tour' I must state that this pricing was made very clear by the company at the outset, but would suggest that any solo travellers thinking of making this booking should be very aware of the higher cost being a distinct reality. Having said this, the guide - a larger than life character called Dan - had enough personality to make up for the absence of others. We hiked gently uphill amongst trees for about an hour, crossing numerous streams - which required some sense of balance - as we went. Then, a simple, no queue transaction at a kiosk and the highlight of the trip, seeing the waterfalls falling through the canyon and the slight thrill of climbing the ladders, some of which are very tall. The descent - back along a different route - to the kiosk was rather steep at times.
