Additional Information

Great Zimbabwe monument is a Unesco World Heritage Site, it’s full of history and provides a perfect day out for visitors in Zimbabwe. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe during the country’s Late Iron Age. Great Zimbabwe served as a royal palace for the Zimbabwean monarch and was used as the seat of political power. One of its most prominent features were the walls, some of which were over five meters high and which were constructed without mortar.
There are 200 such sites in southern Africa, such as Bumbusi in Zimbabwe and Manyikeni in Mozambique, with monumental, mortarless walls but none as large and intact as those of Great Zimbabwe.

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the Great Zimbabwe - I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the Great Zimbabwe with This and That Safaris. Along the way, Thembi (my guide) pointed out the first road built in Zimbabwe, the gold mining towns, the Chinese factories, etc. Although the drive was a long one, this added a lot of interest to the journey. At the Great Zimbabwe site, Thembi handed me over to one of the official guides who was very knowledgeable about the archaeology and history as well as the environment. I just wish that we had more time at the museum, however. I should also add that Thembi went the extra mile to sort out the payment for the trip, as it seems that his bank had problems with dealing with the international transaction. Aside from the payment issue, there are a couple of other areas for improvement, however: • Thembi should have sorted out the drinks and lunch BEFORE the trip commenced rather than after he picked me up; this added to the length of the journey. • As stated above I wish that we could have spent more time in the museum; this could have happened had we not spent time sorting out the drinks and lunch during the trip. On the whole, however, the trip was great.

A great day with excellent guides - My visit to Great Zimbabwe fully met my expectations. Thembie from Thisandthat tours and Champion from Great Zimbabwe Monument were both highly knowledgeable and extremely professional. It was a very long drive to and from the site and Thembie ensured that the day ran perfectly, even to the extent of making sure that I was able to obtain dinner upon our late return, for which I was most grateful. I would certainly use this company again and would recommend it to others.
