Additional Information

Unearthed in 1952, the Cave is nestled 200ft (70 m) beneath the Burren limestone terrain. Donning a safety helmet and guided by a skilled and well-versed guide, you’ll navigate a complex network of tunnels and trails, gaining knowledge about the formation of the Cave. This is an awe-striking experience, and you can’t help but feel the thrill and fascination that the Cave’s initial explorers and adventurers must have felt years ago.

As your descent comes to an end, brace yourself for a fleeting moment of mysterious tranquility, absolute darkness and utter silence, abruptly replaced by a blaze of light illuminating the grand, cathedral-like dome of the Cave. The continent’s largest stalactite, a monument of nature, is the focal point: a colossal feature descending from the Cave’s ceiling, refracting light, colors and details like a gigantic, ornate glass chandelier. This mesmerizing spectacle spans 7.3 meters and weighs roughly 10 tonnes. A truly unforgettable spectacle.

  • There are 125 steps down and up from the cave. Every ten steps there is a landing and a handrail all the way.
  • The temperature in the cave remains a constant 11°C (52°F) so it appears cool in summer and warm in the winter. A light jacket or warm sweater will keep you cosy for the tour.
  • A sturdy pair of walking boots or shoes are advisable. Open-toed footwear is not suitable for the cave tour as it is slightly muddy and uneven terrain underfoot.

Must see! - Amazing to see great stalactite. Don't expect much more but this and great story how it was found. For me it was more than enough. Anyway, worth visiting. You must first get down the stairs, short 30min tour and after you must climb up 🙂like 6 story building.

Super experience. Really interesting and fun. - A wonderful experience with children. The guide Shauna spoke so clearly and provided us with really interesting information about how the cave was found etc. Everyone was very friendly. It's authentic and there is a real wow factor when you get to see the largest stalactite in Europe. The nature trail was brilliant for the kids and they loved the animals and fairy trail. There is a gorgeous view of the valley and a lovely coffee shop which we have visited previously. Beautiful selection of food and coffees and area to sit. There's a real sense of enhancing the biodiversity and lots of signage on the trail explaining the heritage of the place and area. Highly recommend to visit. Great thing to do to keep the children occupied for a few hours while bring very interesting for adults too! Thank you.

A Worthwhile Tour - I like caves and this one did not disappoint. Be aware that you have to descend a metal staircase equivalent to six floors and then climb back up at the end of the tour. The passage to the main chambers is not very tall and you could bump your head but they give you a hard hat to wear. So, know that you may have to stoop from time to time. You are rewarded with a view of this huge stalactite. Perhaps the best I've ever seen. The tour guide was very informative and answered all questions. Definitely a worthwhile tour.

Informative tour of Doolin cave - This tour lasts about 50 mins and our guide Myles delivered his information in an interactive and professional manner. Be mindful if you have breathing or walking difficulties that the descent and ascent is very steep.
