Highlights
  • The Large Onofrio’s Fountain is a standout feature of Dubrovnik, Croatia, and serves as the gathering spot for our culinary tour. This impressive round fountain, positioned at the entrance to Dubrovnik’s Old Town near Pile Gate, is a spectacular display of the city’s historical engineering accomplishments and architectural beauty.

Established in 1438 by famous Italian master builder Onofrio della Cava, the fountain was part of an intricate water supply network that transported water from a spring more than 7 miles away. Even after being damaged by an earthquake in 1667 and the Croatian War of Independence in the 1990s, the fountain has been fully restored and remains an operational public water source, offering cool hydration to locals and visitors alike.

  • Distinguished by one of the city’s most revered figures, Ruđer Bošković Square is situated at the core of Dubrovnik’s historic Old Town. Ruđer Bošković was an esteemed physicist, astronomer, mathematician, philosopher, diplomat, poet, theologian, and Jesuit priest in the 18th century.

Situated in the city’s UNESCO-recognized center, the square epitomizes the rich history and culture of Dubrovnik. It is unmatched in its allure, surrounded by slender, twisting streets lined with ancient stone structures that are signature to Dubrovnik.

  • The Rector’s Palace in Dubrovnik is a symbolic building that served as the headquarters of the Rector of the Republic of Ragusa, the moniker for Dubrovnik during its prosperous era as a maritime republic in the Middle Ages. This historic Gothic-Renaissance palace, nestled in the city’s Old Town, bears witness to Dubrovnik’s glorious past.

  • The Church of Saint Blaise, a dazzling Baroque church situated at the center of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, is devoted to the city’s patron saint - Saint Blaise (Sveti Vlaho in Croatian). It ranks among the city’s most loved religious and architectural attractions.

  • Stradun, or Placa, is Dubrovnik’s primary artery. This limestone-paved pedestrian route runs approximately 300 meters, linking Pile Gate to the west with Ploče Gate to the east, and constitutes the heart of Dubrovnik’s UNESCO-protected Old Town.

  • The Orlando Column, also referred to as ‘Orlando’s Pillar’ or ‘Roland’s Column’ in Dubrovnik, is a profound historical monument located in the city’s ancient town. Set up in 1418, the column displays a statue of the medieval warrior Orlando (or Roland), a legendary figure who represents Dubrovnik’s independence and resilience. The limestone column stands 17 feet tall and originally served as a public announcement board, a symbol of justice, and a standard for local cloth merchants. Abundant in history and folklore, it continues to symbolize Dubrovnik’s cultural legacy and perseverance.

  • Gundulićeva Poljana Market, more commonly known as the Gundulić Square Market, is a lively open-air market held in Gundulić Square at the heart of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Named after the renowned poet from Dubrovnik, Ivan Gundulić, the square converts into a bustling market each morning.

  • The Sponza Palace, known in Croatian as ‘Divona,’ is among the most beautiful and historically important constructions in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Nestled within the iconic city walls, the palace is located at the termination of Stradun, the city’s principal street, close to the city bell tower.

  • The Old Port of Dubrovnik, alternatively known as the City Harbor, is a fascinating historic site located in the city’s eastern sector. Symbolizing Dubrovnik’s rich maritime tradition, the Old Port was once a vital center for trade and connectivity, associating this ‘Adriatic Pearl’ with harbors throughout the Mediterranean and beyond.

  • The Dubrovnik Cathedral, formally titled the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, is a marvelous Baroque establishment located in the center of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Celebrated for its artistic and architectural brilliance, the cathedral remains a significant city landmark.

  • The Serbian Orthodox Church in Dubrovnik, officially called the Holy Annunciation Orthodox Church, is a remarkable religious landmark situated in the city’s historic Old Town. This exquisite church showcases a unique fusion of architectural styles, merging Byzantine and Southern Adriatic influences.

  • Dubrovnik’s Bell Tower, a towering edifice standing 31 meters high, occupies a commanding position at the eastern terminus of Stradun, the city’s main street. It is one of the city’s most recognized symbols in the UNESCO-protected Old Town. Originally erected in 1444, the tower was rebuilt in 1928 when the original structure began to tilt dangerously.

Fantastic Food and Wine Tour around Dubrovnik Old Town - This was a great tour, we learned a huge amount about Dubrovnik and its history whilst also tasting some wonderful wine and food. All the dishes and wines served were great, you will not leave the tour hungry! Ana was a brilliant guide, she knows so much about life in Dubrovnik - even the names of the different "community cats" you might see about the town! 100% would recommend others to do this tour.
