Highlights
  • Seljalandsfoss - The famous waterfall one you can walk behind. Be careful you might get wet :)

This unique waterfall flows from the infamous glacier Eyjafjallajökull, the molten-syllables-which nobody can pronounce good for nothing volcanic glacier that stopped all the air traffic over the North-Atlantic back in 2010.

At Seljalandsfoss there are restrooms, a food stall and a small gift shop. The restrooms are free of charge.

NOTE:

  • Skogafoss - An archetypal waterfall, Skógafoss is one of the most beautiful and tallest waterfalls in Iceland.

There is a staircase leading to a viewing platform for the waterfall and surrounding areas. The platform gives you an expansive view of the south coast, Eyjafjallajökull and Skógafoss.

NOTE: the restrooms are behind a paywall and entry costs ISK 200 / USD 2.

  • Solheimajokull Glacier - Sólheimajökull is a glacier tongue, an offshoot off of the main body of Mýrdalsjökull glacier.

We walk towards Sólheimajökull, through the valley it has carved out of the mountain scape and along the glacier river it forms at its base. The valley is a chaotic collection of rocks, gravel and sand which the tongue ground down as it passed over the land.

The glacier is unlike others as it is striped with layers of ash crushed between seasonal layers of ice, but the glacier is surrounded by multiple active volcanic stations.

NOTE: the restrooms are behind a paywall and entry costs ISK 300 / USD 2.5, they accept credit cards.

  • Reynisfjara Beach - Reynisfjara, or the Black Sand Beach, is truly a natural marvel. The site offers beautiful basalt columns, a natural arc viewed from afar, troll-like sea stacks and during the summer season there are thousands of puffins which make the cliffs of the Black Sand Beach their home.

We do both sightseeing and the lunch break there. The restaurant overlooks the South Coast and offers bites suitable for any palate and diet. Restrooms are free for customers.

  • Vik - A short photo stop at the photogenic village of Vík. We stop by the town’s church where the troll-like basalt stacks and the village provide the perfect background for a selfie :D

Wonderful day seeing the south coast - We had a wonderful time on this trip to the South Coast. Our driver, Anastasia was full of information about Iceland and the places that we were visiting. We had enough time to see the sites at each stop and since we were punctual in returning to the bus she took us to an extra stop. Would definitely recommend this tour.

Amazing experience - I couldn’t possibly recommend this tour more. It was such a pleasurable and memorable day. Of course a lot of the credit goes to Casper- our one of a kind tour guide. He is the sweetest, most thoughtful and fun guide to be around. We did a few extra things which literally were the actual highlights of the experience. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🤍

Wonderful sites & stories! - A scenic ride visiting iconic sites but Anastasia made it more than that as she shared geological, historical, and human stories that made for an Icelandic adventure.

Best thing we did in Iceland honestly. Völli was a fantastic guide! - We booked this tour last minute, literally the day before, to see some of Iceland outside of Reykjavik on 3rd April. We weren't sure what to expect as had not done a tour like this before - but it was excellent! The best thing we did during our entire trip. Völli was a fantastic driver and guide. During the drive between places he was explaining lots of things about the various scenery and landscapes, as well as the places we were going to be visiting. He also shared lots of information about Icelandic culture and life in the country, which made it so much more enjoyable and informative. He even squeezed in a few extra stops to cool places on the journey, which made the experience even better. He also had some great tips on the best way to see each waterfall etc. If you want to see some amazing waterfalls, a black sand beach and a glacier that will take your breath away - and learn a lot about Iceland on the way - then this is the perfect day trip to take. Highly recommend!

Amazing views but felt like a long day - Really great views and walks, maybe a little long but it was probably some loud middle aged Americans that kind of ruined the trip. It’s was a small coach and they completely didn’t understand volume control to respect other passengers.

South coast tour - Great trip to the south of Iceland, in particular Skogafoss was amazing with a beautiful rainbow reflecting off the waterfall. We also really enjoyed black sand beach and the fantastic glacier. Didn’t give it five stars as we had to return to Reykjavik to pick someone up so wasted over half an hour and also the minibus was extremely hot and unpleasant which spoilt some of the enjoyment.

Upgrade your sound system - The sound system was terrible. It was scratchy and very soft (hard to hear). There are no speakers over the last row so we missed most of what was being said. My wife loves a guided tour so she was very disappointed that we missed a lot of the commentary. On the positive side the countryside was beautiful and the waterfalls were gorgeous!
