Highlights

Meet your guide outside the Henry Jones Art Hotel and then set off on your 2-hour walking tour to explore streets, buildings, people and history of Hobart. Elegant heritage listed buildings are in abundance on your tour route, and as you walk, your guide will point the details of the beautiful, well-preserved Georgian and Victorian architecture.

You’ll enjoy the stories of the colonial beginnings of city, detailing the troubles and successes the British settlers experienced, as well as stories of the Indigenous people of the area and their responses to British invasion. Continue your walk through time and into town working your way up to the seat of power housing church, court and prison. Stroll through a city center park and be delighted – and amazed – at the statues and the stories behind them.

Then head down to another lovely park with a dark secret that many of the locals still don’t know about. Finally arrive at Salamanca Place – world famous for its Saturday markets, the oldest markets in Australia. Your guide will be happy to direct you to some favorite cafes for a reviving coffee after the tour.

Excellent introduction to Hobart - A great introduction to Hobart CBD and waterfront area. We booked this tour for the first day of our stay and got enough ideas to fill free days. The guide was excellent and the tour informative, not too long or strenuous, and with enough history to give a sense of the place. Learning about a colony that wiped out the aboriginal people and was built on convict labour is not a happy story but as the guide said, it’s one that needs to be acknowledged. The tour gave a real sense of what life was like back then and how those hard times laid foundations of the current thriving state capital. Highly recommend this reasonably priced tour.

Highly enlightening Hobart waterfront walk - Our guides knowledge of the area was remarkable & added depth to our walk. Having a small group also allowed for more questions which she was also able to answer.

A Fine Tour of Major Heritage Buildings in Hobart CBD - Deb our tour guide was very good at including all 8 of us in her presentation. Her delivery was clear and so very informative, and engaging. She had a marvellous sense of humour. She also had a folder filled with a number of enlarged photographs which helped make the stories come alive.

An informative and enjoyable experience - I always find the stories behind history quite interesting. But they are often amusing as well, particularly when the supposed facts of history turn out to be blurred, misconstrued, or not true at all, as was the case in some instances on this walking tour. Good fun and a good day.
