Highlights
  • Angkor Wat - Angkor Wat is a temple complex at Angkor, Cambodia, built for the king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious center since its foundation
  • first Hindu, dedicated to the god Vishnu, then Buddhist. It is the world’s largest religious building. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It is designed to represent Mount Meru, home of the devas in Hindu mythology: within a moat and an outer wall 3.6 kilometers (2.2 mi) long are three rectangular galleries, each raised above the next. At the center of the temple stands a quincunx of towers. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Angkor Wat is oriented to the west; scholars are divided as to the significance of this. The temple is admired for the grandeur and harmony of the architecture, its extensive bas-reliefs and for the numerous guardian spirits adorning its walls.

Friendly guide and beautiful temples - Great tour, not too long. Our guide Nak was so happy and friendly, he spoke very good English and his knowledge of the history, temples and local area was fantastic. My daughter was not feeling very well and Nak was so accommodating, ensuring we had plenty of water, keeping us in the shade as much as possible and even amended the schedule. Highly recommend 🙂

A taste of Cambodia - Discova were a superb company with fluent tour guides and safe drivers. Seamless collection from airport to touring and suggesting experiences while we were in Cambodia. Raksa and driver Beth were a great team. We even stopped for a Water buffalo photo on our calm journey to the airport. Three nights is not enough in Siem Reap but a great taste of the amazing temples, fishing villages, night street market, circus and lovely choice of included restaurants on our few days. Thank you from the 3 UK physios and their honeys.

Great Private Tour of 1. Angkor Wat; 2. Bayon; and 3. Ta Prohm (the Tomb Raider temple) - We tried to book online with Green Era Travel as that looked like a really good tour for us. For some reason the online forms didn’t work but we got in touch with “Jeff” from Green Era Travel - via WhatsApp - who was very helpful organising our last minute tour. Our guide “My Sophy” was excellent - he and our driver collected us at our hotel on-time. We were visiting: 1. Angkor Wat; 2. Bayon; and 3. Ta Prohm (the Tomb Raider temple). We went and purchased our one-day tickets with My Sophy from the ticket office. USD $37 each. Check about consecutive days use of tickets if you are tempted to buy “multiple entry” tickets. They take a photo of you for your ticket and the tickets are checked several times during the tour. My Sophy took us at our own pace (best reason for a private tour) and explained the history of each of the temples. Overall the tour lasted from 09:00 - 15:30 We didn’t want to go for lunch - but that was on offer (at our cost) if we wanted it. There was the obligatory stop for coconut water and a hard-sell sob-story from an artist to buy some art (which I did!) - which was - expected - but only mildly annoying. We digress. My Sophy is a licensed guide and knowledgeable and attentive. He took some great photos of us too. Neither my wife nor I are “Temple Fanatics” so this tour was more than enough for us. We covered all the good stuff and in enough detail not to be overwhelmed or bored. Between temples My Sophy and the driver made sure we had cold water and … cold face cloths - genius! - a real game changer. Made the whole day so much more pleasant. Overall we’d recommend Green Era Travel and My Sophy too.

Brilliant historical tour of Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple & Ta Prohm. - This is a must do when in Siem Reap. We only had 3 days in Siem Reap so this was ideal to see the main 3 temples in one hit. Our tour guide Phy was so knowledgeable about the history of the temples & answered any questions we had. He even was a handy photographer & knew all the good spots to pose!! Tuk-tuk driver gave us plenty of water especially in the hot sun & we were given plenty of time to get lunch (recommend the Fish Amok from the cafe - it was lovely). Many thanks to Phy for making it a well worthy trip.

The Best Experience in Angkor Wat - Angkor Wat short day trip with our beloved guide Chong David was very wonderful. We were welcomed as a family in the group. He had an in depth knowledge about the temple and about the history of Cambodia. His explanation were excellent and he was really interested to answer our questions. I felt very fortunate and bless to have him as our tour guide. He even graciously took our photos beautifully. I highly recommend him as a tour guide for Angkor Wat.

Pat Provided Us with a Fabulous Tour - If you can, you should request “Pat” - our guide. Pat is extraordinarily knowledgeable having been a tour guide for 30 years. He began by telling us an amazing story about his life, which was also, essentially, the story of Cambodia. It was good for all of us to hear, especially the 4 teenagers in our group. He didn’t sensationalize it…just gave a short history as we were driven to the first of three main sights. Grateful for our privileged lives. Angkor Wat and Tam, of course, was fabulous. It’s worth the time to understand the meaning of what we were seeing, so it was great to that we went at an easy pace. BTW, compliments, too, to the tour service: WE booked for the wrong day, with no excuse. They graciously adjusted our dates without any penalty. There’s a lot of walking including many steps. So not for the unhealthy or infirm! Others have posted enough photos but none give the full impression…having been to four of the seven “man made wonders of the world” Angkor Wat (and Tam) definitely deserves a spot at or near the top. Quite extraordinary. If you are traveling to Thailand, be sure to fit in a couple days at Siem Reap. BTW, try out Paris Bakery, The Golden Temple Retreat and The Embassy restaurant - all wonderful elements of our brief stay in Siem Reap.
