Amazing tour! - We had a great visit in Lalibela with Daniel, visiting stunning ancient churches, enjoying a delicious home-cooked meal and coffee ceremony prepared by his wife, and trying homemade alcohol and injera. We also hiked up to Asheton for breathtaking views, explored the bustling Saturday market, and attended Sunday morning mass. Lalibela left a lasting impression, and we recommend Daniel!

A very good tour of Lalibela - Daniel organized and guided me through my 4 Night & 5 Days tour for Lalibela churches including the accommodation. He is very knowledgeable about the history, the churches (both the architecture and the religion and all the symbolism that goes with it) and the traditions. I was lucky to be in Lalibela during the Christmas pilgrimage. Daniel never forgot to mention to me all the important aspects and events of the tradition. I had the privilege to share my Christmas lunch with Daniel's wonderful family. Daniel arranged also my 2 Night and 3 days tour of the Denakil Depression including the transportation transfer. He was not my guide during the tour but was so caring that he calls me daily to enquire about the trip. I strongly recommend Daniel as both an organizer and a guide for any tour in Lalibela and beyond in Ethiopia.

Excellent guide - Dan is an extraordinary guide, as a local he knows a lot about history and tradition. Your tour is complete with tickets and a great quality hotel. Dan is very kind and attentive and took us to have lunch at his house with his family. It was an incredible and unforgettable experience. I really recommend Dan's services and come and meet Labibela, who is special.

Excellent Guide for Lalibela! - Dan took me on a 1 day walking tour of all the Lalibela churches and he was a fantastic guide. We started early on a Sunday to see all the worshippers at mass, then visited half the churches, had lunch at his house cooked by his lovely wife, then visited the final group of churches. He grew up in Lalibela (his father was a priest at one of the famous churches) so he knows all the history and can even take you through secret cave and tunnel entrances! I highly recommend Dan and he can be contacted on +251 91 105 4296.

Short but memorable tour of stone-carved churches - We had a short but memorable 1 night stay in town and 2 day tour of the churches led by Daniel. Daniel arranged for everything from our airport pickup to hotel check-in, meal coordination with the hotel chef, and two walking tour sessions of the churches. Daniel knows everything there is to know about the churches, architecturally and symbolically. The churches have a historied past and there was never a dull moment or story as he took us through the intricate rooms and winding tunnels carved out of mountain stone, one by one through each of the eleven. While Lalibela is in the region of Amhara that's contested at the time of writing this, we felt nothing but safe and welcomed. The hotel staff was warm, church priests and churchgoers greeted us, continuing with rituals and services while we observed or took pictures, and locals were friendly. If you're considering visiting, I'd highly recommend at least a day or two stay to see the churches.

A Wonderful Cultural Experience and Excellent Guide in Lalibela - If you have limited time and you want to get a comprehensive tour of Lalibela, I highly recommend Daniel and his driver, Shilesheweke. Daniel is a local guide and has extensive knowledge of the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela and Ethiopia in general. From the first time I contacted Daniel, he was always quick to answer my questions, he gave me a detailed description of the tour as well as Timket and even helped me with accommodations which were very limited and expensive during my visit. Daniel made sure that I had a place to stay that was reasonable and comfortable. The tour of the churches was excellent and I was very happy at how well-coordinated all the activities Daniel planned for me. I was able to visit all the churches including the Timket celebration. Daniel made sure that I experienced all the special highlights including the Timket procession in the afternoon, the evening services and the actual celebration early in the morning. I am also very happy with Shilesheweke as he was such an excellent driver. He was always friendly and attentive, making sure we get to all our destinations including the airport promptly, safely and comfortably. Thank you Daniel and Shilesheweke for making my trip to Lalibela a wonderful and memorable one!

Amazing tour with a a great guide - I chose Daniel based on previous reviews. He answered promptly to my emails giving all details, prices and stating clearly what was included. The whole tour ( 2 nights stay in Lalibela) went smoothly: he picked me up at airport, took care of everything being nice and friendly all the time. Most important he knows a lot about Lalibela churches and has a new specific info for everyone of them.. In 2 days we visited all churches in Lalibela, made a half day tour to Yemrehanna Kristos monastery (we drove both ways) and visited Monastery of Na'akuto La'ab on the way back to airport. I have one advice to people planning a visit to Lalibela: Do hire a knowledgeable guide. Yes You can visit all the churches on your own but You will miss a lot and probably lose your way many times. Personally I'm very happy with Daniel's services and can recommend him warmly.

An Amazing experience with all knowledgeable and personal tour guide, Daniel. - Finally got through wiriting this long over due review. I had an amazing experience visiting 11 churches in Lalibela. Daniel is well organized and informed about all churches and its histories behind it. We began our 1st day by visiting Monastery of Na'akuto La'ab a church under a cave which was a result of a volcano. Its unique features is in the teseble( Holy water) that trickles down from the rock above the church. Its water quantity doesnt change if it rains or in various season. That was an astonishing information and I was able to take some ot tesble with me which I am greatful for Danny to insist that I do. Second day we began our journey in vistiong group one churches such as bete medan alem, bete mariam..and we took part in trekking to see yeberhane christos which was an amazing experience. A chruch built on water. We also visited group 2 churches as well as the famous st gerorge. I recommend Daniel as your tour guide.

Not timely, will not take Ethiopian birr???? - I scheduled a two-day tour with Daniel. By email, we confirmed a 10 AM start time at the Maribela Hotel. He did not come; I was a bit delayed, so was waiting by 10:10, but he did not appear. I emailed at 10:15, no response. I called at 10:30; he arrived around 10:40. Since the churches close from 12 to 2, he suggested starting at 2. I asked if this would decrease the price, as this was a half day less tour than previously scheduled. He seemed offended by the suggestion. I did make a mistake and said that I had to leave at 5:30 (work conference call); I had forgotten that this tour (unlike others) did not include dinner. We sat down to discuss what the tour did and did not include - and then he said it would only take payment in USD, not in Ethiopian birr. I don't carry USD with me outside the US; I carry only local currency, because... why would I carry around USD in a country where USD isn't accepted? The charge was 90 USD, so I offered a very reasonable 2610 birr (at 7/25 exchange rate, this is $90.36). He said birr and dollars were not the same, and walked away.
