Highlights
  • Valley of the Fallen - Valley of the Fallen is a Francoist regime monument, Catholic basilica and a monumental memorial in the municipality of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, erected at Cuelgamuros Valley in the Sierra de Guadarrama, near Madrid. Franco claimed that the monument was meant to be a “national act of atonement” and reconciliation.
The construction works mainly involved free workers and a smaller, albeit significant, percentage of prisoners, these between 1942 and 1950, under the regime of redemption of sentences.

A Spanish History Lesson - A perfectly paced tour with an excellent guide. Cristina gave just the right amount of information to keep it interesting and not repetitious. She was very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. I also appreciated her safety warnings on hidden steps. We had cafe and bathroom breaks. They were the perfect length and at the right time. This tour involves steps and should be mentioned in the description.

El Escorial - I was not convinced about this activity due to all the controversy around it however, our guides Maria, Cristina and Sara did a great job explaining the history of el Escorial and el Valle de Cuelgamuros. The views are spectacular I recommend this activity if you visit Madrid.
