Highlights
  • Deco City Discoverer - Deco City Discoverer 2.5 hour tour departs from the Napier i-Site information Centre beside your shuttle bus stop. We wander down the Marine Parade a jewel in the crown of Napier City pointing out all the points of interest. We leave the city boundary travel South along the coast to our first visit the Celestial Star Compass located on the beach over looking Hawke Bay.

We then start to head inland through the rural area of Meeanee and out to the Silky Oak Chocolate Company nestled in among the Orchards.

Silky Oak is full of beautiful chocolate of all descriptions, a Pantry Shop, Gift Shop and Cafe that makes very good Coffee, grab one and bring it with you if you wish.

We then head back to the edge of Napier into the suburb of Taradale, past Art Deco McDonalds and out to the very grand old Mission Estate winery the oldest winery in New Zealand established in 1851. Enjoy a walk around this historic site, or a sample of their fine wines (Tasting fees apply) and take in the views over the city from their beautiful garden lookout.

We commence to head over land that rose up in the 1931 earthquake to the seaside suburb of Westshore, and Ahuriri the original Port of Napier with a photo stop at the beautiful Art Deco building of the former National Tobacco Building.

We then head up the Napier hill for fantastic views all over Napier City and the wider Hawkes Bay area before we head down into the heart of our city where we pass many of our beautiful Art Deco buildings and some that survived the 7.8 earthquake of 1931.

Finishing off back at the beautiful Marine Parade. It is our pleasure to show you around our unique City. Thanks for joining us.

Mark was an excellent... - Mark was an excellent tour guide and I highly recommend his services. Our group was picked up exactly as promised (and in my husband and my case, we were early to the pick-up point and Mark allowed us to come on board the bus early as he made one shuttle bus run into town for the cruise ship!). Napier is a beautiful city and Mark clearly loves his hometown and enjoyed sharing it with his guests.

Informative but missed some highlights - Informative and views from the peaks were great. Shame the chocolate factory didn't give any free samples and bus couldn't get into main napier shopping area.

Enjoyable - Really enjoyed our tour I thought maybe it could have been done I a shorter time as apart from the Art Deco houses and info about earthquake there wasn't a lot more to see.

Short and sweet. A sip of Napier. - Some seats need more padding. Tour lovely. Host very informative and helpful with mum and her walker. Easy access from the ship's port. Napier was a lovely town. Too bad no time to stop and sample any NZ wine in town. Nice side trip to get off the ship. Would have to come back and do a wine tour nexr time. Thanks

Great tour - Beautiful place, so much to see. Art Deco buildings were amazing. Shame about the roadworks, spent a lot of time going no where. Maybe skipping this oart would have been an option? Also, arriving for a break when the inlyvcafexhad stopped serving ciffeecwas disappointing, maybe related to delays?

Countryside tour around Napier - I took this tour because I was keen to see the Art Deco buildings. In fact the centre is full of these beautifully restored buildings that you don't need the tour for this. The driver/guide explained all about the economy of Napier, the effects of the 1929 earthquake, and reclamation of land. We saw a Maori sculpture ring, fruit farms, and stopped at a tearoom.

Good tour off cruise ship. Need speakers - The tour was really well done and really informative. However, there should be some kind of speakers at the back as we couldn’t hear the tour guide speak for much of the tour. It is very noisy at the back with the noise of the road and vehicle they picked us up at their cruise port, no issues except they are half an hour late.

Boring tour not worth the money - There were none! . It was a long winded boring drive around stopping at a chocolate shop for 15 mins then listening to a run down of the earthquake in 1931. We finally saw some art deco homes. Trip could have been condensed into one hour instead of two. Tour narrator spent a lot of time telling the bus driver how to drive! Waste of 2 hours
