Duration: 10 hours
Cancellation: 1 day learn more
Highlights
  • Centro ecoturístico La Cumbre Ixtepeji - Get to know the forest of one of the towns of the Sierra Norte de Oaxaca to reach one of the highest points in Oaxaca (3,200 meters above sea level), where a wide biodiversity and different views are hidden that will make you reflect and contemplate the beauty of the nature.

We will walk on flat trails, with ups and downs in a 10-15 kilometer loop for 3-5 hours. Walking these trails is moderate for beginners. We will find different types of trees, plants and mushrooms (by season). Upon reaching the top we will rest and we will be able to appreciate, in a clear sky, the mountains and even the largest mountain in Mexico in the distance, and on cloudy days, we will be around clouds that will make you feel in a totally different environment.

On the way back, we will take another downhill trail with humid nature and fun descents where, if you dare, you can even run. When we go down to the cabins, we will rest and continue on our way until we reach our vehicle.

We will say goodbye to this mountain trying the seasoning of the local food so that when we finish, we will return to Oaxaca.

Beautiful hike with a talented guide. - If you like hiking, I would recommend Más Montaña. Luis is passionate about the mountain and knows it well. He customized the experience to our preference and shared authentic local food at two interesting spots. He also picked great music for the rides to and from the mountain!

Great Day in the Mountains - My husband and I did a hike with Luis in 2022 and enjoyed it so much we signed up again this year and brought friends with us. Luis is a great guide - he is knowledgebable about the environment and is in tune with the abilites and wishes of the group as far as which routes are best to take. We stopped for a delicious breakfast before the hike and enjoyed a big lunch afterward. Spending the day in the beautiful mountains was a nice contrast to all the time we had spent in the city. I hope to return to Oaxaca and would happily do another hike with Luis. Highly recommended.

Perfect and customized hike. I can highly recommend Luis as a tour guide. He was a good and knowledgeable guide. - Luis our tour guide was the best tour guide. He was good at adjusting the tour so it was just perfect for us in every way. Loved all about the nature, the views, the meals and the length was perfect as well. We hiked from 2700 MASL to around 3300 MASL. Many options for cutting short/going more or less steep/extending the hike etc. Also the very friendly driver was always close by with water supplies etc. The pace was just right for us and the dog Valentin was a great companion on the whole trail. Highly recommend!!! You need to book this hike! ❤️ you won’t regret it

Surpassed our already high expectations! - We chose this hike because it had such great reviews, and those reviews are well-earned! Luis was a knowledgeable and fun guide, and we were lucky to be with a great group of people. The mountains are beautiful, especially if you’re hoping to see some green during dry season. We even stopped my a waterfall and had the chance to go under it. The family restaurants were special and unique, too. Hope you decide to take this tour!

A day of incredible, worthwhile experiences led by a terrific guide - This "hike" turned out to be an exciting day-long adventure. Luis took us to breakfast and lunch at very authentic small "restaurants" in the mountains. At lunch, they caught the trout in a backyard pool and then prepared it! The hike took us up to 10,600 feet and through several different biomes. I saw plants I had only seen in greenhouses. The first hour was spent climbing to the top on some challenging (for me) trails. I'm a very fit 71-year-old woman, but I live at sea level. The altitude was a challenge and I slowed down our small group. Luis was very patient and taught me a lot about hiking safely. I'm so glad that I went.
