Must see attraction in Taupo… - One of the most colourful of the geo thermal attractions I have seen. The staff is excellent and it is a well maintained attraction. We have been to Yellow stone in US but the colours at Orakei Korako were more vivid. We also visited Waimangu Volcanic Village but Orakei outclasses it by a million. Definitely a must see if in Taupo.

Well worth the detour. - It's quite a detour to get here but it's worth it. The admission fee is expensive, but it does include the water taxi across the lake, and all those boardwalks must cost a lot to build and maintain. What makes Orakei Korako stand out from other geothermal sites are the white silica terraces, on which colours flow as if pots of paint had been spilled. The Artist's Palette is well named, and the climb to the lookout above it is worth the effort. To climb further, the cave is impressive only for its unusual origin, but the plopping mud pools with their mud fountains provide absorbing entertainment. Two way radios and evacuation routes are provided at strategic points for a worst case scenario.

Most interesting thermal park in the area - Definitely the most interesting thermal park we visited, well worth the money. Once you have booked you get a free night in their carpark for a self contained camper van. Quiet and flat but no facilities between 5pm and 8am. We stayed the evening before and took an early trip which worked well, the cafe does a decent breakfast once it is open.

World class attraction - Fabulous experience and well signposted and maintained. Lots of steps so not suited to prams or wheelchair users. Loved the flora signage of native plants. Ferry from info centre to main attraction was on demand and driver very friendly. Every sight was unique and like nothing we had ever seen. World class attraction for a world class site.

More out of the way to ditch the crowds but so impressive - We decided to visit this geothermal area as it is more off the beaten track and it certainly felt less touristy. It took about 50 minutes to get here from Rotorua, but the drive itself was through beautiful scenery with some good views towards Mount Ruapehu also. There is a cafe and toilets on one side of the lake with a boat trip across to the geothermal area. The silica terrace is a huge area with several geysers and loads of boiling pools. We did take water with us and we needed it as it was certainly warmer there and there are wooden steps up and down to see all the fantastic features. If you want to see random geysers, boiling mud, a huge geothermal cave and a great tramp through native bush areas then this is gif you. It felt more out of the way than when we visited waiotapu in the morning but just as spectacular and ensured our step count was definitely well over 10000!! There were more geysers but not as spectacularly high as at Waiotapu or Te Puia, but this area felt more intrepid and out of the way! The native birds we saw were very close too

Gem on road less traveled - A gem on the road less travelled. We went to other geothermal offerings, but this was the best. Up close and immersive experience at your own pace.

Unique Experience - Not many people; easy to buy ticket and cross water on the ferry; many different colors of minerals; loved the mud pools and all the gurgling sounds

The formidable power of the earth- close up - Uncrowded and self paced- the walk was along very safe and well marked tracks. Sad that there appears to have been recent fences added, no doubt as a result of visitors not taking note of the clear and oft’ repeated safety warnings to stay on the paths. It is awe inspiring to see the powerful, petulant and creative forces at work throughout this area. On ANZAC day It was poignant to see the memorial to the Mikaere brothers who were associated as guides in the 30’s and both died serving in WW2
