Highlights
  • Trg Republike - Your guide will meet you at the centre of Podgorica – Trg Nezavisnosti - Independence Square (formerly Square of the Republic), at the fountain. In case of rain, the guide will be positioned by the Podgoricka Bank, under the eaves surrounding the square.
  • Montenegrin National Theatre - We will start towards the monument of Marko Miljanov and the Bokeska street, stop by the National Theatre, and continue towards the statue of Petar II Petrovic Njegos, a famous prince-bishop, writer and philosopher, situated in the park opposite the theatre.
  • Millennium Bridge - We continue the tour via one of the bridges over Moraca River, which flows through Podgorica, and will see the Millenium Bridge, one of Podgorica’s landmarks.
  • Vladimir Vysotsky Monument - We will pass by the monument of Vladimir Vysotsky, a Russian poet, singer and songwriter, who lived in Podgorica for a while.
  • Blazo Jovanovic Bridge - We will cross the river Moraca again, at Blazo Jovanovic Bridge and continue towards Sastavci (or Skaline), at the confluence of the rivers Ribnica and Moraca.
  • Sastavci - Sastavci or Skaline is a very picturesque site, but admittedly uncared for. Above the confluence stand barely visible ruins of the fortress of Ribnica. These are known as Nemanjin grad, as it was here that Stefan Nemanja who subsequently founded Nemanjic dynasty, was born. We will cross an old picturesque stone bridge on our way to Stara Varos, the oldest preserved quarter of Podgorica, dating back to the Ottoman rule.
  • Starodoganjska Mosque - At Stara Varos we will briefly stop at the Starodoganjska Mosque, which was built in the 15th century and for a long time maintained by the traders from the nearby shops.
  • Clock Tower - Sahat Kula (The Clock Tower) is one of the important landmarks of Podgorica. It stands at the edge of the Stara Varos, facing the socialist apartment blocks across the street. Built in the 18th century by Adzi Pasha Osmanagic.
  • Monument to A.S. Pushkin and N.N. Goncharova - Located on the corner of Njegoseva street, it portraits the famous Russian poet Pushkin reading poetry to his wife Natalija Gonchareva. After a brief photo stop at this monument, we will return to Independence Square.

Fantastic Private Guided Tour - Ana was a phenomenal guide and I learned quite a bit on this enjoyable walking tour. The meeting point was clearly communicated and Ana held a sign, so it was easy to locate her at the start of the tour. The tour route included several different parts of town and gave a fairly comprehensive overview of the city's history and culture. Ana was very knowledgeable and gladly answered my many questions. I also had many opportunities to take photos and we even had a chance to stop to taste rakija along the way. At the end of the tour, Ana provided several helpful recommendations for places to eat and other sites nearby I might want to visit. I would highly recommend this tour.

Walking Tour a must to appreciate Podgorica - We were not impressed with Podgorica as a town until Ana Zaric helped us appreciate Podgorica's buildings and history. She is an excellent guide with perfect English and we valued her local perspective. We would very much recommend this visit, even in the rain.

Very pleasant stroll around the capital. - The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and even though the city doesn’t have as many points of interest as a big city, it was a very pleasant tour.

Great tour with an amazing guide! - We scheduled a private tour, as we came to Podgorica in the late afternoon hours, just checked in and rushed to the main square to meet our guide. Our friends told us not to expect much from Montenegro's capital. But this was a great way to get to know Podgorica! Ana, our guide was not only knowledgeable, but she also has a great personality and a huge sense of humor. It was hot, way too hot for September, we were told that Podgorica can be a frying pan in the summer. The tour explained many things from Podgorica's history and current life, but the real treat was to talk to Ana about her town, people, customs, religion, old ways and new ways... It was a two hours walking experience, as we had to stop and rest because of my cousin, and we had to sit and rest before continuing. At the end of the tour, we asked about nightlife, pubs, places to eat – and got a recommendation for the pub with craft beer, best traditional restaurants, and exquisite contemporary restaurant. The only regret – we found about the agency and Ana at the very end of our stay.

Marvel in Montenegro - A swift walk around the old & new streets of Podgorica, with details of the history of Montenegro. It was very easy to talk to the man with the great beard - Slavko, he was great company, very knowledgeable. Tour ended at local restaurant ‘Lanterna’ where I tried out some local dishes.
