- Pucallpa - After meeting at Wakaya for an orientation, we embark to the main square of Pucallpa for a city walking tour. We will begin at the Plaza de Armas, visit notable cultural sites and learn the history of historic buildings including the unique architecture of the Catedral de Pucallpa.” Following, we will stroll through the charming pedestrian “Boulevard Tacna” to a mirador (viewing place) to get a stunning view of the port of Pucallpa and there Ucayali River and historic clock tower. Then we’ll visit the “la Plaza del Reloj Publico,” one of the oldest squares in the Amazon and finish exploring Pucallpa’s bustling market. Along the way, we’ll visit galleries, shops, and cafes, enjoy artisanal ice cream made from Amazon superfruits.
Throughout, Patrick will be giving guidance on how to take a good travel photo and be pointing out ideal locations and subjects.
- Laguna Yarinacocha - From Pucallpa, we’ll go head to main square of Yarinacocha, passing first through the Parque Lapuna, where you can see Pucallpa’s famous ceiba (Lapuna), one of the tallest trees in the Amazon. From there, we will visit Maroti Shobo, an artisan market dedicated to Shipibo-Conibo handicrafts and run by women on the Yarinacocha Square. Following, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at the famous El Tuyuyo Restaurant known for its Amazon fusion cuisine.
- Ucayali Region - After lunch we will take a motor taxi to visit “Sloth Village,” on the Ucayali that nurtures a unique community of rescued sloths. They are also known for their handicrafts and for processing “camu camu,” an Amazon fruit that has twenty times the Vitamin C than oranges.
Following we’ll return the Resting of Yarinacocha to catch the sunset and some amazing photos and enjoy some refreshment on a floating restaurant.
We’ll then return to Pucallpa.
