Highlights
  • The Geothermal Energy Exhibition - We drive by Hellisheiðarvirkjun powerplant, one of the world’s most powerful geothermal powerplant! It is situated on a plateu right outside of Reykjavík and is surrounded by active hot springs and a moss covered lava field!
  • Hveragerði - After snapping some drive-by photos of the beautiful mossy scenery and the breathtaking view of the South Coast from top of the plateau, we stop in a small village called Hveragerði. In Hveragerði, we stop by a wonderful bakery and there’s access to restrooms!
  • Faxi (Vatnsleysufoss) Waterfall - While it may be a lot smaller than Gullfoss, this stop offers an intimacy to nature not afforded by every other stop. You can get so close to the waterfall that you can almost touch it!
  • Gullfoss Waterfall - The golden waterfall is in the canyon of Hvítá and nothing short of a spectacular scenic view. When the weather conditions are safe, you can even walk all the way down to the waterfall.
  • Geysir - Geysir is arguably the most famous hot spring in Iceland. There’s not a whole lot of action these days but Strokkur (right next to it) erupts every 5-8 minutes or so. Make sure to have your camera ready to catch that amazing natural phenomenon.
  • Efstidalur II - If time permits, we instruct our guides to stop by a couple of photogenic horses and even to stop by Efsti Dalur farm, where you can try some delicious ice cream. The Golden Circle is smack full of interesting places and vantage points, which make both driving and the sightseeing stops a day-long joy!
  • Thingvellir National Park - Last but certainly not least, Þingvellir National Park is an area of tremendous historical importance for Iceland. It’s where the first parliament was established in 930 AD. Not only is it a scenic beauty but you’ll be exploring one of the longest-running political establishments in Europe.

We’re not finished! Because of the geographical location of Þingvellir, it is possible to walk from the North American to the European tectonic plate. Talk about a bucket list item!

Spectacular views - No wonder that Golden Circle is such a popular route. The views are spectacular, especially Thingvelir National Park. Really enjoyed the time on the tour. And the guide makes your experience even better sharing all the information and pointing out on interesting things along the way. Great! Would recommend.

Fantastic tour with marvelous tour guide - We had booked the Golden Circle excursion for April 12, 2024. The fact that the meeting point described could not be reached due to a major construction site was corrected easily and in a timely manner via SMS. The tour itself was carried out in a relaxed manner as described. Unobtrusively perfect. Maybe not all buses had such a brilliant bus driver, but we were really lucky with Smari. He gave us an incredible insight into this fantastic country, its people and its culture. There was music playing in the MP3 player that fits so wonderful with the landscape. Funnily enough, the musician was also our smart tour guide Smari. He also had a delicious surprise for us dried fish ... and finally a live performance by Smari with guitar at a sold out house, sorry bus. Unfortunately we can only give 5 stars, this tour would have been worth more than 10 stars. We would book the excursion again at any time.

Golden Circle Tour - Smári, thank you for the nice trip Nicole (from the green heart of Thuringia in Germany) The tour was wonderfully organized and Smári gave excellent commentary. Smári is a very good guide with a lot of heart and charm for the passengers. The dried fish with butter was a very nice gesture. Thanks to the boss for the chocolate bar. And thanks again to the great musician Smári and the final singing performance It was an all-round successful day with lots of well-being

100% recommended - Amazing tour with Andres, he was super informative and fun, so we couldn't recommend it anymore. It was a cold day in April but we still had some moments of sun and we couldn't have wished for anything else! 👍 As we were pretty good on time he also offered us to stop at a couple extra points, which was a nice plus (we could even try homemade ice cream from a local farm).

Recommended - A lovely tour with an excellent guide. The stops on the trip were very impressive and you could take lots of impressive pictures. The whole thing was rounded off by our tour guide Tomas, who had lots of exciting facts about life in Iceland, nature and history. The moments on the bus (max. 30/40 minutes between stops) flew by. Highly recommended!

Golden Circle - Oli (our guide) needs all the plaudits. He is incredibly knowledgeable but also entertaining and helpful. He spoke about history, the natural world and the 'Soul of the Country'. He shared local myths and legends and mixed it with historical facts and current events. A real talent and asset. The tour highlighted some spectacular parts of the country. It began with a walk between continents (I'm an outdoorsy type and found the walk easy- it would be manageable for almost everyone). Then we watched the earth do its thing by spouting water and steam. We watched a glorious waterfall, had lunch nestled among tomato plants (try the tomato cheesecake- what a revelation). We finished in the (not so) Secret Lagoon, floating in the steam, watching the world go by. Highly recommend. Also shout out to Holiday Tours in general who are so helpful and kept us well informed. They clearly value their customers.

Disappointment - This tour was mediocre at best. The stops were too short to enjoy the surroundings. We were taken to a tourist trap gouge location where they charged my family nearly $100 for 3 bowls of tomato soup because they had a farm. BIG DEAL! I declined and stayed in the van to eat peanut and butter and jam we brought. I suggest you rent a car and down 30 minutes researching on the internet. This place is too expensive. I won't return.
