Highlights
  • Temple of Apollo (Tempio di Apollo) - At our first food stop we’ll try out the most local of street foods:

  • Arancini: world-famous Arancini consist of a ball of rice stuffed with a variety of ingredients (meat, cooked ham, spinach, pistachios, aubergines and more) and then fried in the traditional way.

  • Fried fish cone a delicious cone filled with various kinds of fried fish, caught that day!

  • Fountain of Diana - We’ll then have a chance to taste:

  • Impanate: The Sicilian impanata (mpanata in dialect) is an artisanal bakery product typical of Sicily, a kind of tasty oval-shaped, golden-coloured calzone that can be stuffed with tomato sauce, vegetables, meat, cheese, potatoes and sausage, shrimp and black olives: it is a delicacy with decidedly strong flavours!

  • Il Mercato di Ortigia - To then go to taste some local products: along a tour of the ancient market in Syracuse including a tasting of paninetti with locally produced cheeses and cured meats.

  • Largo Antonello Gagini - We’ll also relish some local and refreshing desserts:

  • Sicilian granita: perfect for relaxing and cooling down on a hot summer afternoon. It is served in a glass and is ideal to end a rich meal on a high note. Fresh fruit, sugar and ice are the necessary ingredients - simple, but incredibly tasty!

  • Sicilian Cannoli: the wafer, traditionally moulded around a hot metal bar, is filled with a sweet and creamy preparation made with ricotta cheese, candied fruit, crunchy pistachios or dark chocolate chips. An explosion of taste and colour! You can find the recipe here.

  • Via Marbella - We’ll then finish the tour with a tasting of typical local liqueurs

A wonderful adventure in Syracuse at night - Giuseppe was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable from years in the food industry. All the street food was prepared fresh for us at each venue. Had a great time on the evening tour, as traveling solo. It was fun to be with a group at that time of day And see the city after dark. Highly recommend.

Great food, great knowledge, great guides!! - This was a great choice of a tour for us and our 87 year old parents for many reasons. Having Maria and Giuseppe as our guides was like having friends in Ortega who were excited to see us again. Just like family. They were warm, patient, compassionate, accommodating, knowledgeable and a lot of fun to hang out with. Besides great guides, the food and their knowledge was of course amazing. Ci rivedremo presto, Grazie mille

Fantastic experience with tour guide Maria - This was an excellent tour and I’m SO glad I signed up for my first day in Ortigia & Siracusa. Our guide Mariagrazia was a super fun, knowledgeable woman who grew up in Ortigia, loves to cook and knows all the best spots. If you’e a foodie she is the one to talk to about Sicilian cuisine. She really went out of her way to make sure we were enjoying our tour. It felt like hanging out with a new friend and that says it all. Make sure you request her for your tour!

Slow food - You will not leave this tour hungry — that's for sure. There were five stops and plenty to eat. The problem was that we walked so slowly, and our guide didn't really offer much in the way of history or interesting stories about the food, so it felt like we were killing/wasting time. Plus you could go to the Sicilian Street Food shop and taste the foods on your own without getting stuffed. And then happily roam the streets at your own pace.
