Highlights

Tbilisi-Enguri Dam-Mazeri

Tbilisi - Driving - 9 Hours
In the morning, we head to Svaneti. Along the way, we stop in Zugdidi to visit the Dadiani Palace, once the residence of a local lord who governed a significant part of Western Georgia. Next, we proceed to the Enguri Dam, one of the world’s tallest arch dams, standing at 271.5 meters. We then drive to Upper Svaneti, a region renowned for its exceptional mountain landscape, well-preserved villages, unique defensive tower houses, and medieval ecclesiastical architecture and art. We continue to Mazeri village for an overnight stay.

Mazeri-Ushba Waterfalls-Mazeri

Mazeri - In the morning, we begin our hike from Mazeri village, following the Dolra River upstream. The trail passes mineral water springs, a quaint church in a picturesque setting, and beautiful meadows, gradually ascending through scenic pine forests to a border post, where the final ascent begins. We then return to Mazeri village.

Mazeri-Guli Pass – Koruldi Lakes – Mestia

Mestia - In the morning, we embark on another splendid hike, heading to Koruldi Lakes via Guli Pass. At an elevation of 2960 meters, Guli Pass requires considerable physical effort to climb. After crossing the pass, we descend into another valley and easily reach Koruldi Lakes, a small alpine lake surrounded by impressive mountain peaks, including Ushba.

Mestia-Zhabeshi

Zhabeshi – Adishi

Adishi – Chkhutnieri Pass - Iprali

Ushguli - Early in the morning, we begin our Svaneti adventure, following the river upstream. After an hour of pleasant walking, we need to cross the roaring Adishi River on horseback for safety. We then climb to Chkhunderi Pass (2655 meters), where we can enjoy panoramic views of the stunning Adishi Glacier. After lunch on the ridge and taking in the views, we descend into the Khaldechala River valley. After two hours of easy walking, we reach Khalde village, destroyed in the 19th century by Russian soldiers. From here, we follow an off-road path to Iprali village.

Iprali -Ushguli-Mestia

Mestia - In the morning, we trek through traditional Svani villages. After passing Kala and Davberi villages, we trek through a forest to reach Ushguli from above. Ushguli, located at the foot of Mount Shkara and at the confluence of the Enguri and Kvishiri rivers, is the highest permanent settlement in Europe (2200 meters). The village’s blend of mountainous landscapes and medieval towers and churches will amaze visitors. Here, we visit the Ushguli Ethnographic Museum, housed in a 12th-century Svanetian tower-house, and the medieval Lamaria Church (Church of the Assumption of the Mother of God). We overnight in Mestia.

Mestia-Tbilisi

Tbilisi - After breakfast, we depart for Tbilisi. On the way, we visit Chalaadi Glacier, following the Mestiachala River upstream for 1.5 kilometers to its source. We then continue our journey to Tbilisi.

Wonderful! - We loved our trek with TrekGeorgia!! From initial email contact with the company through the completion of the trek, the experience was seamless. Our guide, Dito was the best! He was the perfect combination of professionalism and friendliness. A native Georgian, he was a wealth of knowledge of Georgian history, culture, flora and fauna. It is evident that he loves his work. Would definitely recommend TrekGeorgia to guide your Georgian experience.

Spectacular trip in the Svaneti lands - Dito was an amazing guide: setting a great pace that was in line with the group, but more than that he was also a great host and ambassador for Georgia. His knowledge is broad and deep and he’s also greatly intuitive and and curious. Sveneti is an amazing place and not to be missed: Mountains, food, wine, and camaraderie. Great trip!

Stunning tour with a fabulous company and group of like-minded trekkers. - An AMAZING experience with Trek Georgia and a small, like-minded group of trekkers. Trek Georgia have been very responsive, kind and well organised. The accommodations and food were both excellent, though most of all the experience of hiking through Svaneti is one I will never forget!

Great experience in the Caucasus. - I visited Georgia in Aug and I joined the 6 days trekking tour in Svaneti. I symple have no words to describe the beauty of these mountains and the kindness of their people, not to mention the incredible food and wine. The trip was very well organized and the accomodation confortable. Our guide Nutsa proved to be a great professional with a lot of hiking experience. She enjoys her job and she transmits her enthusiasm to the group. A part from hiking we had also the opportunity to go to the cinema in Mestia to enjoy a film shot in the region 😁. A perfect trip!. Amazing Experience - This was a great trekking experience indeed, totally worth it!! Beautiful landscapes, contact with locals, trying georgian cuisine, exploring this beautiful country. Our guide Dito was very experience, aproachable and professional. We could also benefit from his vast knowledge of Georgian history so it was also a cultural trip in that way. In terms of the trekking itself...even when some of the days the walk was long and steep is absolutely manageable for any person in reasonable shape. In addition if you are lucky to be in a group with nice/awesome people (as it happens to me) the experience is top.

6 day trekking trip in Svaneti - I had a truly magnificent trekking experience in Svaneti, Georgia. Our guide Dito, was experienced and capable and went out of his way to make sure we felt comfortable on the walk and had enough time to rest, take pictures and enjoy the amazing scenery. Walking was at time challenging (there was obviously a lot of uphill) but distances of between 10 to 18 kilometers was quite manageable. I thought the schedule of the trip was well managed. The guesthouse we stayed in were terrific - they varied in comfort level but provided us with a taste of Georgian country life. I was fortunate in being accompanied by a wonderful group of new friends.

The most beautiful hiking ever!! Bucket list experience - Wow, what an amazing experience!!! This was truly the highlight of my boyfriend's and my long trip in Georgia. The education we received about Georgia's culture and history, the breathtaking natural landscape, and the delicious food and wine offered to us by the many hospitable Georgians we met along the way all made this a truly once in a lifetime trip. We cannot overstate how beautiful the mountains, villages, and valleys were -- the land literally teemed with the most diverse array of wildflowers I have ever seen while hiking, and the medieval architecture was amazing to behold! Our guide Ditto was a fantastically trained and knowledgeable guide, and he really helped our group bond! We laughed and drank together, played games of Uno, and overall had a real blast.
