Highlights
  • Rose Revolution Square - We’ll meet you in front of the Bicycle Monument near Radisson Blu Iveria at 10:00 or 14:00. (Rose revolution square. 50m from Rustaveli metro station) You will see our tour leader wearing a red scarf. If you are a group of more than four people, We will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the old capital.

  • Jvari Church - After 30 minutes drive, we will arrive at Jvari Monastery. The name of this monastery is translated as the “Monastery of the Cross.” Jvari Monastery is a sixth-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta. Along with other historic structures of Mtskheta, it is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Jvari Monastery stands on the rocky mountaintop at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, overlooking the town of Mtskheta, which was formerly the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia.

  • Svetitskhoveli Cathedral - After a 20-minute drive from Jvari monastery, we will arrive at Svetitskhoveli in Mtskheta. Mtskheta is one of the oldest cities in Georgia, founded by the ancient Meschian tribes in the 5th century. Due to its historical significance and several cultural monuments, it is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It was the capital of the early Georgian Kingdom of Iberia from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD. However, Mtskheta continued to serve as the coronation and burial place for most kings of Georgia until the end of the kingdom in the 19th century. The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral is currently the second-largest church building in Georgia, after the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Known as the burial site of Christ’s mantle, Svetitskhoveli has long been one of the principal Georgian Orthodox churches and is among the most venerated places of worship in the region. Svetitskhoveli was not only the site of the coronation of the Georgian kings but also served as their burial place.

Fascinating half day trip from Tbilisi! - This was a fantastic trip first to Jvari monastery and then to Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia. İn a short space of time it was possible to learn about Georgian history, visit both monasteries, gain excellent panoramic views from the hill and also down by the river, taste local honey, wine ice cream, and different types of Georgian wines + cha-cha! İt was brilliant. Makuna was a wonderfully knowledgeable and personable guide. She made the tour fun and engaging from start to finish. Thank you. Hope to visit again!

Best Experience ever! - The tour was just amazing, I had a lot of fun today with our tour guide Lasha from Georgia guided us to the amazing city of Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia before Tbilisi was made capital. We started our journey first to Jvari, took a lot of beautiful pictures, we went through a mountain with one church at its peak dating back to the 6th century. This is one of the most beautiful scenes I’ve ever seen, then we went down to Mtskheta, to another church, took more pictures, and finally the bazaar where we shopped, brought some soveneirs to take home the wine tasting, ending up with Georgia’s famous “cha cha” ! I love it! Thank you so much Lasha, you made my day really ! If you are planning on a trip to Georgia, you should not miss that chance to visit these two amazing places

Satisfying Mtskheta Tour - After Kazbegi, we were joined by guide Dimitri and driver Zaza. It takes a total of 4 hours, so it is less physically taxing. The guide is very knowledgeable and professional. The fact that it takes good pictures is a bonus. We highly recommend that the Georgia tour be conducted by this team.
