Best dive shop in Roatán! - I did my open water certification with Peter Van Voohris and he made it the most memorable experience. His knowledge of Scuba combined with his empathy and attention to detail are diving 60ft under water a safe and comfortable adventure. Also, he actively sought out different sea life for me to see! The entire West Bay Dive Shop is amazing! By the end of my trip, if felt like I was leaving good friends.

Amazing dive center! - Amazing dive site, extremely helpful throughout booking and pre learning. Jose is an amazing guide and instructor. He made the learning and diving experience so worth everything! They make sure everything you have is top of the line ready to go. I can’t recommend this place enough if you’re looking to dive or learn in Roatan!

Couldn't have asked for a better experience! Super Instructor!!! - My husband and I had never tried sciba. We started our Open Water certification with Joel. He was very thorough, super patient, and made it easy to relax and have fun while making sure you got the material and took it all in. We were both very nervous and Joel was creative and kind in helping us adjust to all the new experiences. He made it very easy to follow his directions throughout the dives a clear and consistent habits and movement patterns that helped to reinforce all the lessons above the surface. He took his time as we repeated skills on the dives, and made sure we were REALLY learning for our future diving experiences. Even with all that, he made the dives into memorable tours or each reef are, pointing out the different kinds of fish and coral, answering questions, and recording it all for the most memorable start to a hobby I jave ever had! The whole crew of instructors and captains were great! I can't recommend them highly enough!!!

Amazing staff and gear! - I just got back from Roatan we had a fantastic experience with West Bay Divers. Barny was very friendly and accommodating for the dives we wanted to book and answering our many questions. We did two dives with Jose and he was a blast, even when he wasn't our guide. He also provided me with really good constructive feedback as a beginner. I hope to see him there again next year! I completed my Open Water and did seven dives total with Arturo and I can't say enough good things about him. I was so nervous the first day and he was very kind and patient. He did a wonderful job explaining things and pointing out hard-to-find creatures. He even found a seahorse! I did two adventure dives with him to go towards my Advanced and I hope he is there again next year to complete the certification with. The rest of the guides/instructors, captain and crew were all very friendly, helpful and created an awesome atmosphere on each dive. We really appreciated the quality and condition of the gear we rented and how nice the boats are. Overall this is a fun and safe dive shop. I'm really looking forward to coming back next year, but for longer!

Thank-you Joel and West Bay Divers! - I feel so fortunate to have gotten my open water certification with West Bay Divers. I had a lot anxiety about getting certified, but was determined to conquer my fears. I'm not sure I would have succeeded if it weren't for the awesome West Bay team. Boutique dive shop and best teacher - West Bay Divers is the most professional and fun dive shop we have ever experienced. In particular, dive master Joel Urbina was exceptional!!!! We brought our sons down to Roatan specifically to become certified by Joel based on a friend’s enthusiastic recommendation and it was a great decision. Joel was so patient, knowledgeable about all things diving and all the Roatan dive sites, accommodating, safe, kind, and fun (his laugh is so infectious). Really, an absolutely exceptional teacher! One of my sons was having a lot of trouble clearing his ears and Joel just kept encouraging and educating him with great patience until he gradually felt comfortable and capable. We dove with Joel 6 straight days and 1 night. We met a family who visits twice a year just to dive with Joel…. He has quite a following and we certainly can see why. West Bay Divers is a boutique shop that keeps groups quite small. We had one dive master for just our family for almost all dives and when another family joined, a second dive master also joined to ensure a personal and safe experience. The diving in Roatan was excellent and Joel made sure to take us to most of the great sites (Mary’s Place is a must!). We were so lucky to see the infamous “string of pearls” on our night dive….what an experience that Joel ensured was safe and intimate for our newly certified and first time night divers (just us 4 with Joel). The boats and equipment are high quality and the whole shop and team are top notch. Our captain for the week was Edwin and he was also super helpful and professional with a great music play list. If you are looking for a place to get newly certified or get advanced or rescue diver certified, come to Roatan to dive with Joel at West Bay Divers. All skill levels will be thrilled to experience this diving and dive shop. We will be back!

Top notch dive shop - My daughter did her referral open water here. I’ve been diving since I was 16, and have seen a range of outfits and attitudes at different locations. If it’s just me, I can accept a wide range. When it’s my little girl, I’m on high alert. And West Bay Divers stands out. Obviously, I wanted her to have a safe, educational, and enjoyable experience. Bastiaan was simply outstanding. His standards are high, and his love for the reef and all its life is palpable. She learned a lot, got the right perspective on diving and stewardship, and had a ton of fun. Thanks to the whole team at WBD!!

Fantastic West Bay dives - I started the the discovery dives, knowing I wanted to give scuba diving a chance. I could not have been more pleased and excited!!! Mayghan (instructor) and Alex (boat captain) are absolutely amazing! Both are extremely knowledgeable and hilarious! Laughs and jokes are constant, until it is time to get serious about the dive, safety and your comprehension. Highly, highly recommend getting your dives in here. I even went and got my open water cert!!

Great Instructors but, be aware of hidden costs. - Let me begin by telling you that West Bay Divers Instructors (Arturo and Mia) are first class, professional, personable and attentive. Where the experience went wrong is in the Owner's (Wayne) hidden fees. At checkout and after completing the PADI Open Water Certification, My bill was approximately 25% higher than advertised. When questioning the cost, I was told that the additional costs were because I had taken part in an additional dive and that they had added a Marine Park donation. Had these added costs been presented up front, gladly, I would have agreed to them. The added dive and Marine Park Fee was never presented as additional or even optional. The dissatisfaction is not at all in the cost but, the lack of transparency. Sure there may be something in the small print of their paperwork which was explained to me by Wayne as simply an "if you drown" contract. Had these cost been presented up front my experience would have been 5 star. If they forgot to tell me, everyone makes mistakes and they should have admitted to it. I return to Roatan to have my family PADI certified and unfortunately, I'll likely be going through one o the many other dive shops on the beautiful island.
