Each of these bears has a unique poignant story, all being rescued from a life of imprisonment. Recognized as the top brown bear sanctuary globally, Libearty Sanctuary is a destination for all, beginners to seasoned explorers and youngsters. It’s a delightful encounter for animal enthusiasts and those wishing to immerse in the stunning splendor of The Carpathians and the regions around Brasov. The majority of bears residing in the sanctuary are escapees from dismal, tiny cages where they served as amusing tourist attractions. Many were retrieved from restaurant patios, resort facilities, private residences, while others lived confined near manufacturing units, gas stations, or even a monastery. After this insightful tour, we’ll proceed to explore the Peles Castle, a stunning Neo-Renaissance structure. Previously the abode of Romania’s Royal Family, the castle was constructed between 1875 and 1914 under the reign of King Carol I.
