Aswan High Dam

Aswan High Dam - The Aswan High Dam is a significant hydroelectric dam situated on the Nile River in Aswan, Egypt. Finished in 1970, it ranks among the largest dams globally and is vital to Egypt’s water management. The dam was constructed to manage the Nile’s annual floods, control water flow, and generate electricity for the area.

It has greatly aided agricultural growth by enabling year-round irrigation and has helped prevent flooding in the Nile Delta. The formation of Lake Nasser, the reservoir created by the dam, has also had environmental and social effects, including the displacement of communities and the conservation of ancient monuments.

Philae - The Temple of Philae is an ancient Egyptian temple complex on Philae Island in the Nile River near Aswan. Initially built during the Ptolemaic period (around the 4th century BCE) and later expanded in the Roman period, the temple is dedicated to the goddess Isis. The complex features various structures, including the main temple of Isis, a Kiosk of Trajan, and the Temple of Hathor.

Due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam in the 20th century, the temple was moved to Agilkia Island to avoid submersion. The Temple of Philae is famous for its well-preserved reliefs and architectural features, making it a crucial archaeological and historical site in Egypt.

Believed to have been commissioned by Queen Hatshepsut in the 15th century BCE, the obelisk is notable for being unfinished and still attached to the bedrock.

It would have been one of the largest obelisks ever created if completed.
