Highlights

Cappadocia - Natural Formations

Devrent Valley - Also known as Imagination Valley; this area features unique formations that encourage you to imagine and identify various shapes atop the conical fairy chimneys. You might see shapes resembling goats, lizards, fish, mushrooms, and many other figures.

Fairy Chimneys - Also called Paşabağları: This location is renowned for its multi-headed fairy chimneys. It is also known as Monks’ Valley.

Avanos - Also known as Venessa. This city, situated by the Halys River (Red River), has inspired locals to produce terracotta since the Hittite period. All the pottery masters hail from this city, making a pottery-making demonstration by the masters a must-see activity.

Love Valley - This valley features natural formations that stand as single pillars, taller than the others.

Uchisar Castle - The largest fairy chimney in Cappadocia, standing at 60 meters high. It includes many cave dwellings and sections. Although we won’t climb it due to safety concerns, it offers one of the most panoramic views, perfect for photography enthusiasts. You can even capture a photo similar to the one Jean Reno took in 2005 during his filming here.

Pigeon Valley - A panoramic point where you can see a valley filled with pigeons and their nests located in cave dwellings. It offers a view of Uchisar Castle in the background. This is one of the most popular spots to visit, especially for a photo with the blue evil eye tree in front of the panorama.

Spirit of Cappadocia

Derinkuyu Underground City - Among the 30 discovered underground cities, Derinkuyu is the steepest and deepest. It is close to Kaymaklı Underground City, and you can choose to visit either. Initially built by the Hittites, it was expanded by locals and reached its largest size by Christians between the 4th and 6th centuries. It is now a museum.

Selime Monastery - A monastery carved into massive rock formations, later used as a caravanserai by Turkish merchants.

Ihlara Valley - Time for a couple of hours of hiking. This canyon is filled with hidden churches built by early Christians and later developed by Byzantine rulers. During the hike, we can take a tea or coffee break and visit several of these churches.

Goreme Open-Air Museum - The first example of a monastic system in the Christian world, where the basics and initial doctrines of Christianity were established by St. Basil from Cappadocia and St. Gregorios from Nazianus and Nyssa.
