Manjanggul Cave - Recognized as a World Natural Heritage Site, Manjanggul Cave stretches 7,400 meters, with 1 kilometer open for exploration. This cave, formed by flowing lava, is a lava tube created by volcanic eruptions from Geomunoreum near Hallasan Mountain. As the surface and floor cooled rapidly, the surface solidified while hot magma flowed like a tube. The descent takes about an hour, and caution is advised due to water puddles. English explanations are available throughout the 1km journey to the stone pillar. After the tube-like formation, lava descended from a ceiling hole, solidifying into a towering stone pillar.
Manjanggul Cave is closed on the first Wednesday of each month, with the last entry at 17:00, so visitors should arrive at the parking lot by 16:50.
Woljeongri Beach - Woljeong-ri Beach is lined with numerous cafes, offering a perfect spot for coffee while enjoying the beach’s wind generators and benches. It’s an ideal location for capturing photos of Jeju’s beach scenery. Driving along the coastal road provides a romantic and peaceful experience.
Seongsan Ilchulbong - Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, a World Natural Heritage site, offers a round trip climb and descent in about an hour. Standing at 182 meters, “Seongsan” means a mountain resembling a castle, and “Ilchulbong” refers to the peak where the sun rises. The peak features haenyeo performances, viewable twice daily at 2:00 PM, though they may be canceled in bad weather. Formed by lava eruptions from the seabed, the peak boasts 99 stone pillars resembling a crown. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the summit from the ticket office, offering a chance to appreciate nature’s grandeur.
Seopjikoji - Similar to Woljeong-ri Beach, Seopjikoji offers cafes and scenic views, perfect for coffee breaks and photography. The coastal drive is romantic and serene.
Seongeup Folk Village - Nestled at the base of Hallasan Mountain, Seongeup Folk Village showcases a rich culture from 1410 to 1914. The village’s cultural assets, passed down through generations, include residential houses, Confucian shrines, schools, ancient government offices, stone statues, large millstones, fortress remains, and stone monuments. Intangible cultural properties like folk games, local food, crafts, and dialects are also preserved. The village’s trees, including centuries-old zelkova and nettle trees, contribute to its historical atmosphere. Seongeup Folk Village highlights Jeju Island’s unique culture, with the local Tongsi being a notable feature.
Saryeoni Forest Path - This 15-kilometer forest trail extends from Bijarim Road south of Jeolmul Oreum in Bonggae-dong, Jeju-si, through Mulchat Oreum, to Saryeoni Oreum in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo-si. Recent forest reclamation projects have enhanced this area, promoting forest culture, health, and a love for nature through tree planting. It is gaining popularity as an ecological space.
Jeju Stone Park - Jeju Stone Culture Park is a museum and ecological park that comprehensively showcases Jeju’s stone culture. Opened on June 3, 2006, after seven years of construction, the park is vast, making a leisurely visit advisable. Located in front of Oreum, a unique natural heritage of Jeju, the park’s entrance is marked by a castle-like structure made of stones. Following the viewing path, visitors can see various stone statues depicting the tale of Seolmundae Grandma and her son, General Ohbaek. The museum is situated underground.
Sangumburi Crater - Sangumburi Crater, a parasitic volcanic crater of Hallasan Mountain, is Jeju Island’s only submerged volcano. The crater’s outer circumference is 2,067m, the inner circumference is 756m, and its depth ranges from 100-146m, forming a conical cliff with a floor area of about 8,000 pyeong. The crater rarely emitted lava, resulting in a deep hole from the explosion, with scattered material accumulating minimally around it. Despite its larger diameter and depth compared to Baeknokdam, water does not accumulate, flowing out to the sea through the basalt gravel layer. Known as a maar, Sangumburi Crater is unique in Korea, with only a few others found in Japan and Germany.
Haenyeo Museum - Located in a fishing village overlooking a white sandy beach in Sehwa-ri, Gujwa-eup, the Jeju Haenyeo Museum focuses on the haenyeo culture of Jeju, with exhibits related to the ocean, fishing villages, folklore, and fishing. The exhibition hall features a donated haenyeo’s house, showcasing food culture, childrearing, half-urban farming, and Yeongdeunggut culture in detail. A 7-minute video is highly recommended.
Haenyeo’s skills are acquired through long-term training and experience, starting at age 8 with swimming and diving lessons in shallow village waters, progressing to baby haenyeo status around age 15. Haenyeo work requires holding one’s breath for over a minute while enduring strong water pressure at 15m depths.

Jeongbang Waterfall - Jeongbang Falls, one of Jeju Island’s three major waterfalls alongside Cheonjiyeon and Cheonjeyeon Falls, is Korea’s only waterfall where water directly falls into the sea. Standing 23 meters high, the two waterfalls cascading along the black cliffs create thrilling sounds and stunning views. The surrounding steep cliffs and cypress trees in autumn form a picturesque landscape, recognized as one of Yeongju’s ten most scenic views under the name ‘Jeongbang River Pond.’ The words ‘Seobulgwacha’ are said to be engraved on the cliff.
Oedolgae - Oedolgae, the starting point of Jeju Olle-gil Course 7, is a 20m-high stone pillar rising from the sea. Named ‘Oedolgae’ for its solitary stance, it is also known as ‘Janggun-seok’ or ‘Halmang Rock.’ Legend has it that Choi Young-gun decorated this rock like a general to cause the enemy’s self-destruction during a battle with the Yuan dynasty. The legend of ‘Halmangbawi’ offers insight into the lives of Jeju’s people who awaited arrivals from the sea.
Jusangjeollidae - The columnar joints are quadrangular pillars resembling delicate carvings, formed by the contraction of thick lava flows rapidly cooling. These hexagonal stone pillars, stacked like stairs, create a natural wonder. The waves crashing against them provide a breathtaking sight, with some reaching over 20m high. The Jusangjeolli Cliffs along the Jungmun-Daepo Coast, standing 30 to 40 m high and about 1 km wide, are Korea’s largest and designated as Jeju Island Natural Monument No. 443.
Yongmeori Beach - Yongmeori Coast, located at the base of Sanbangsan Mountain, extends to the sea. Named for its resemblance to a dragon’s head entering the sea, the coast features sandstone rocks carved by waves over millions of years, forming unique cliffs. The oyster room, resembling a secret chamber, and wave traces on the rock wall evoke a sense of history. The 30-50m-long cliffs, curving like a meander, have been featured in commercials and films.
Sanbangsan Mountain - Sanbangsan, located in Sagye-ri, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, stands 395m above sea level. The name ‘sanbang’ means a mountain with oysters, and a sea cave at about 150m above sea level in the south is called Sanbangsan. Located in Hallim-eup, Jeju-si, it is part of Jeju Olle Course 14 and neighbors Geumneung Beach. The sea’s emerald hue, gradually blending into the clear water, offers a healing experience. At low tide, the silver sandy beach, abundant with shells, stretches endlessly.
In front of the sea, ‘Biyangdo’ resembles an elephant swallowing a boa constrictor from “The Little Prince.” The sunset over Biyangdo Island and the sea is a breathtaking sight. In summer, the beach remains open at night, allowing visitors to enjoy Jeju Island’s blue night under palm trees.
Hyeopjae Beach’s shallow waters, gentle slope, and pine forest make it an ideal family vacation spot.
Handam Coastal Walk - The Handam Coastal Trail, also known as Gwakgeum Olle Trail, is a scenic promenade from Aewol Port to Gwakji Gwamul Beach. Its beauty harmonizes with the surrounding landscape. Spanning 1.2 km, the trail runs alongside the coastal road, with waves crashing nearby. It is one of Jeju City’s 31 ‘hidden unexplored places,’ announced in 2009.
