Highlights

Golden Circle

Thingvellir National Park - We visit the place where the two tectonic plates, the North American and the Eurasian plate, are moving away from each other. Few places in the world offer a better and clearer view of this massive geographic activity. The biggest natural lake in Iceland is also located at Thingvellir National Park and hosts a great variety of fish and bird life. Thingvellir is also an important place for Icelandic national history. At Thingvellir Icelanders founded their parliament in 930 a.d. where the chieftains had their annual meeting every summer. The name “Thingvellir” translates to “Parliament Plains”.

Gullfoss Waterfall - The melting water from Iceland´s second biggest glacier, Langjökull, falls into a deep canyon forming the majestic “Golden Falls”. On a sunny day, you can see the glacier Langjökull in the distance and enjoy a rainbow in the mist of the waterfall, an Instagram blockbuster waiting to happen!

Geysir - The Geysir geothermal area hosts hundreds of colorful hot springs and two geysers, erupting hot springs. One is called “Geysir” and name giving for all the geysers in the world. Today, however, it erupts very seldom. The other geyser is called “Strokkur” and erupts every 5 minutes up to 40 meters.

South Coast, Blue Ice Cave and Glacier Hike

Seljalandsfoss - The adventure begins when we pick you up in Reykjavík in a small and comfortable minibus before heading straight to the South. Our arrival is announced by the powerful theatrics of Seljalandsfoss. Bring a raincoat and you’ll be able to make the short hike behind the falls. The scene behind the fall and the trembling ground from the power of the falling water makes for an automatic Instagram blockbuster!

Skogafoss - Further east along the coast is Skógafoss waterfall. Skógafoss is an incredibly picturesque sight. Tucked in a little gorge, the river Skógá tumbles down a 60 meter cliff before continuing down the landscape towards the Atlantic Ocean. Alongside the gorge a staircase can take you to the shelf above the waterfall for stunning views. See if you can count your steps on your way up.

Skaftafell National Park - We will hike an outlet glacier spawning from the one of the largest glaciers in the country, Vatnajökull. After meeting our highly trained glacier guides and strapping on our safety and glacier equipment, including helmets, harnesses, crampons and ice axes we hike on the ice for an hour and a half. A spectacular experience and opportunity to learn more about this breathtaking and increasingly rare natural phenomena. Skaftafell area has been used as a filming location for many famous TV shows and films, such as Game of Thrones, Interstellar, James Bond, and others… Follow the steps of your favorite characters into the glacier!

The journey continues with the blue ice cave exploration. The exciting hike to reach the cave will take a few minutes – we recommend wearing waterproof hiking boots that cover your ankles and have hard sole. Iceland’s nature is dominated by glaciers and it is only possible to explore them with a certified guide and safety equipment. Your guide will share with you his expertise about the ice caves, allowing you to truly appreciate this amazing natural phenomenon – spoiler alert… it will be blue.

South Coast Glacier Lagoon and The Black Sand Beach

Glacier Lagoon - Heading off day nr. 3 is Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, a 200m deep glacial lagoon fed by Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of Europe’s largest glacier. Enormous icebergs come from Breiðamerkurjökull all year round so the lagoon is usually filled with ice that floats south. Try walking alongside the glacier lagoon enjoying the magnificent views and dead silence of Icelandic nature. Before heading back you will jump on a super jeep and head to a blue ice cave in the glacier.

Fellsfjara - On the other side of the road the icebergs from Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon float into the Atlantic Ocean where they are quickly thrown back to shore by the tide and winds. This black sand beach is full of smaller ice rocks in all shapes and sizes, sparkling like diamonds in the daylight. The ice itself comes in all shades of white and blue forming beautiful contrasts, guaranteed to make your Instagram account pop!

Reynisfjara Beach - Heading further east, we visit the black sand beach of Reynisfjara where the Atlantic coastline presents massive waves hitting the unique basalt columns in the cliffs above the sand. Rock pillars in the water and the cliffs of Dýrhólaey are seen in the distance. This area of the south is also a paradise for bird lovers, as puffins and dozens of other unique species nest on top of these cliffs in the summertime from June to August.

An Amazing 3 days adventuring in Iceland - Axel was a great guide, gave lots of interesting information & kept the tour moving along smoothly! The many stops over the three days were excellent, with a lot to see and do. Amazing sites! The ice caving & glacier hikes were exciting, but doable for people in good shape. Recommended for people who like the outdoors!

3 Day South Coast Tour - Based on recommendations from other travelers, I booked the 3-day South Coast Tour with Troll through their website. I scheduled a pickup from my hotel and we took off on our 3 day adventure. There were around 12 people in my group which gave us enough space in the bus to be comfortable. We drove away from Reykjavik and made stops at different landmarks. Our guide, Gil, was extremely kind and very knowledgeable about the places we visited. He went out of his way several times to make sure everyone was enjoying the experience. The whole group felt that Gil was kind, patient and funny. He answered any questions we had about where we were. We stayed at two different hotels. They both had beautiful views. The breakfast is included and has many different options to start your day. The second and third days were very exciting. We went on a glacier hike, visited the diamond beach and went inside an ice cave. Being a solo traveler, I was worried that I would feel alone since there was a large group of friends. There were two other solo travelers and we ended up becoming friends. It was really nice to meet someone new and learn about them. Gil also made sure that I felt welcome everywhere. On the third day, we finished with a two-hour drive back to our hotels in Reykjavik. I highly recommend using Troll for any of their tours. The 3-day South Coast Tour is a great option if you're coming to Reykjavik for a week. You will get to see many of the best sights in that area with a guide. I would definitely use Troll again if I can make it back to Iceland.

Beautiful! - I was so happy with Troll's 3-day south coast tour. Driving in Iceland can be challenging when you're faced with some intense winter conditions, so as a solo traveler I opted for a tour to take away some of the stress. I was a bit worried that taking a tour might make the trip feel rushed but I can say that the worries were for nothing. At each stop we were given a time to be back at the bus and it always felt like plenty of time. Our guide, Arni, was great, before every stop he gave us an overview on what it was and the history behind it, and as we were driving he pointed out a lot of great stuff we might have not have noticed. He was very clear in communicating the schedule we were on and coordinating meals and restroom stops. He did check the aurora forecast each day, but unfortunately the clouds just seemed to follow us so we didn't get to see them. (The lights weren't at the top of my list of things to see, but even if they were the remainder of Iceland more than makes up for not seeing them!) The main highlights for me were visiting Skogafoss with very few people around (we got lucky with our timing!), the glacier hike and the ice cave. The glacier hike was a bit more intensive than I realized, as we did have to hike up some narrow paths with somewhat steep drop offs, but I never felt unsafe. With the amount of sights you get to see and the ability to just stare out the window at the scenery the whole drive, this tour is more than worth it! I wouldn't hesitate to book another Troll tour!

Incredible trip - Fabulous trip. Our tour guide Thor was very experienced. He is always one step ahead of the constantly changing weather in Iceland. We are able to enjoy the spots at the most suitable time and weather. He also brought us to good restaurants, many extra spots and shared a lot about Iceland. Definitely a good kick-off of our Iceland trip. And we are so lucky to be able to do the glacier hiking under sunshine as well. Our glacier hiking guide was wonderful and knowledgeable too (Sorry that I forgot his name but I remember he is from Belgium).

Amazing Tour!! Worth every penny! Don’t hesitate! - Thor (yes like Thor, the God of Thunder!) was an amazing guide! He took us around to all the locations advertised and even took us to see extra scenic places that we would not normally stop. He was so knowledgeable about Iceland and made the trip absolutely amazing. He answered every question and went into great lengths to ensure that we were all entertained. We went to multiple waterfalls, ice caves, and ended with the glacier walk. At one point, Thor took us to a path directly underneath the waterfall and I got to drink the water from there directly! The accommodations were great and the staff were extremely kind and hospitable. Being vegetarian, I was a bit worried about food options but all the locations we went for food had vegetarian options, including the hotels and restaurants. I would recommend you definitely wear hiking boots, thermal shirt and pants, a beanie, outer coat, gloves, and a ski mask. I personally bought merino wool stuff off Amazon and a Patagonia outer shell and it worked perfectly. Please don’t forget to bring a power bank, reusable water bottle, and a plug adapter for Iceland. The only thing we were unable to see was the Northern Lights but that was due to the cloud covers and not something Troll Expeditions could control. I would give this a 10/10 experience; if you are on a tight schedule and want to see as much as possible into three days, this is the trip for you. Thank you so much to the Troll Expedition Team and I look forward to coming back to Iceland in the future.

3 days in Iceland - The views were incredible, I like a lot the first hotel. Thor our guide was very thoughtful and respectful and try to get us the best time always. I like the tour I think I just missing the volcano crater view, and a bit more historic explanation apart from that everything was absolutely incredible.
