Embark on a 3-day luxury desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga. Explore oasis, sand dunes, and Kasbahs, ride camels, and stargaze at a Sahara desert camp.
From Marrakech To Boumaln Dades Via Ait ben Haddou
Tizi n Tichka - Our Desert tour From Marrakech to Merzouga through Morocco’s famed desert begins in Marrakech, where you can meet us at the airport, your hotel, or any other location. Our driver/guide will meet you there and transport you on a road trip in a car equipped with all of the newest conveniences.
We’ll cross the Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, which is the highest in the range at around 2,200 meters above sea level, leaving behind breathtaking panoramic views and Berber settlements where time seems to have stood still.
Ait Ben Haddou - We will visit the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou a few kilometers before Ouarzazate, which is renowned as Morocco’s Hollywood because of its famed studios. A tour around its adobe perimeter will show us why it was awarded a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. (optional entrance). We’ll also make a photo stop at the Taourirt Kasbah.
Vallee Des Roses - It will not be the only fortress that will appear on the horizon, because from then on we will travel part of the Road of the thousand kasbahs’, through the Valley of the Roses and the Dades Valley. First, the rose bushes occupy hectares and hectares of land. And in the second, palm trees, birch, and almond trees grow at the foot of the river that gives it its name.
Precisely in the Dades Valley, we will make a stop on the way to spend the night in a riad full of charm and regain strength for the intense day of the next day, which will take us to the very heart of the Moroccan desert.
From Dades Valley to Merzouga desert via Toudra Gorges
Gargantas del Todra - The second day of this journey through the Moroccan desert begins with an energetic breakfast at the riad and will end in Merzouga and its famous dunes of Erg Chebbi. But first, the day has another major attraction: the Todra Gorges. This is the name given to the rocky walls of up to 200 meters that have been chiseled over the years by the Todra River. The road here makes unlikely twists and turns and offers views typical of science fiction, and we will descend to walk through some of its most emblematic sections.
Erg Chebbi - We’ll get back in the car and go to Merzouga, the most admired town in the Moroccan desert. We will change modes of transportation here: we will park our vehicle and mount our camels (optionally can be replaced by a 4x4) to travel to the Erg Chebbi sand dunes.
There is a Berber tent camp there with all the amenities for a great stay. But the real delight will be all around you, as the sunset will take on a new hue and the sky will be pure, allowing the stars to sparkle as you’ve never seen them before. You will enjoy your dinner and your night’s relaxation in this unique setting.
From Merzouga Desert To Marrakech Via Agdz
Rissani - The previous day’s stunning sunset and majestic starry sky continue in the third day’s sunrise, which you can see from the camp. With the dawn of a new day, it will be time to enjoy the complimentary breakfast and then relax with a relaxing shower, which will be provided either in the camp or in a Merzouga hotel. After that, we’ll drive to Rissani, where we’ll explore its medina, which is one of the most beautiful in the country’s south.
Draa Valley - We’ll then travel to other communities in this part of the Moroccan desert, including Alnif and Tazarine. We’ll also pass through the Draa Valley, which is home to North Africa’s largest palm grove. Agdz, a traditional halt on caravan routes that today houses places of interest like the Kasbah des Arts, is one of the towns along the route that exemplifies this.
Ouarzazate - Returning to Marrakech from here will take us back to Ouarzazate and the Atlas Mountains, which we will now traverse over the Ait Saoun pass, which is roughly 1,600 meters above sea level. The end of an intense and exciting journey through the Moroccan desert will be reached late in the day when you arrive in Marrakech. And our farewell, whether at the airport or elsewhere, will be full of gratitude, best wishes for the future, and a heartfelt “see you soon.”
